About this listen

In the Company of Liars is that rare animal - a truly original thriller, strikingly fresh and unpredictable. Told chronologically in reverse, from its enigmatic end to its brilliant beginning, it's centered around a woman on trial for murder - Allison Pagone, who is caught between competing forces, each represented by someone who may not care if the pressure kills her in the end. A prosecutor wants Allison convicted and put on death row. An FBI agent believes she can squeeze her into ratting on her family. A daughter and an ex-husband need to save their own skins. And circling them all, a group who would prefer to kill her quietly and anonymously, but who also are not what they seem.

Our first picture of Allison is in the moments after her death. Then the story moves backward in time: an hour before, then a day, back and back until we're at the beginning and can see what's really happened - and most shocking, what has not. At every turn, Allison knows what she sees may not be what's real. The only sure thing is her place in a vortex of half-truths, threat, and suspicion. When her nightmare is over, where will she be? In the company of friends - or the company of liars?

Disappointing for a Talented Author

I've read several of David Ellis books and this one was no stunner. As usual a lawyer is being prosecuted, a sexual affair of infidelity is front and center, and the storyline was all over the place... difficult to follow. The narrators are wonderful but the plot did not give them much to work with. No more David Ellis for me.

Not recommended

This book is told in backwards order. It is extremely difficult to follow and process the story line.

Starts at the end

Starts at the end and then goes thru what went before which is confusing. What makes it worse is that they also recall things that happened even earlier. Decided to listen to it backwards from last chapter to the first and at least understood

What?

I don't know what the author was smoking when he wrote this. It is ridiculous and difficult to follow. Maybe it was written on a dare. I dare you to buy it.

Stick with it, you are in for a treat.

For those who love stings, (and who doesn’t) this book written backwards is difficult at first and when one gets over the difficulty (worse with audible format because you can’t stick your finger in the page to reorient) it’s the most fantastic book of all time. If one could read it backwards, it would be just a great story. Listened to this way, once you adjust to the backward and forget about it.. it’s so incredible, again and again, that you just listen with your jaw hanging open.
This is one to listen to often. May be my best listen ever.
