About this listen

An Imperfect Match

Brodick McJames is an earl in name only. To secure his clan's future he needs an English wife. Mary Stanford, daughter of the Earl of Warwickshire, will suit perfectly. He's never met her, but what matter? She'll grace his bed eventually, and once she bears his child he need see her no more.

Anne Copper looks just like her noble half-sister, but she was born illegitimate, and can never forget it. The best she can hope for is to stay a serving girl in her own father's house. But when Lady Mary finds herself betrothed to a Scot, it seems there's a use for Anne after all.... The woman who arrives in Alcaon is not what Brodick expects, and the passion that grows between them promises far more than a marriage of convenience. When fate draws two together, it may take more than a noblewoman's plot to part them....

"My kind of historical! ....[S]weeps you into the time period without taking a thing away from delightful characters and a charming romance...definitely a must-read." (Heather Graham)

good story but terrible narration

Just listen to the sample and you will hear the robot-like way the narrator reads the entire book. It's clear and easily understood, but I found it annoying and distracting from the story.

Bed with a Stranger

The story was good. The narrator of the book was very boring he could put you to sleep.Sometimes the author should listen to their books before they let them be released to the public. I so want to listen to the rest of the series, but if it’s the same narrator I don’t think I could listen.

Great story - dreadful narration

Extremely enjoyable book. Would have been great with someone like Penelope Nederhorst reading. Sadly, that’s not the case.
I really wish these audio companies would get the picture and only hire people who can
#1 bring a story to life
# 2 properly pronounce each and every word written # 3 get (even slightly) close to the accent of the language they’re characters are supposed to be speaking
Just another case of bad reading ruining a wonderful story.

NARRATOR NARRATOR NARRATOR!!!!

Any additional comments?

Again...a book that has the potential to be a wonderful story is ruined by a terrible narrator!!! What is wrong with these authors not making sure that their hard work isn't read in such a way that they can be proud of!!! This guy was so flat....I kept falling asleep. HIS VOICE WAS BETTER THAN AMBIEN!!!

Erotic and Sensual Love story!!

If you could sum up In Bed with a Stranger in three words, what would they be?

I really enjoyed re reading this erotic and sensual love story. Great characters and a very mean evil villain who meant harm to our lead female character Anne but it turned to her good.

Philipa the Countess of Warwickshire's daughter Mary has been betrothed to the Scottish Earl Brodick McJames the Earl of Alcaon. Mary doesn't want to marry she is a spoiled old spinster who just want to stay at the court of Queen Elizabeth Tudor. Philipa has refused her husbands bed after she gave birth to Mary 26 years ago She does not want to have anymore children and she doesn't care for the marriage bed. Henry the Earl won't rape or force her to his bed. So the Earl takes a mistress name Ivy and they have many children over the years. Anne our heroine is the eldest daughter. The only problem I had with the story was the Earl leaving his wife in control of the household and his mistress Ivy and her children left subject to her whims. This didn't make sense. Henry the Earl is in love with his mistress and loves all his sons and daughter by her but he sits back an let them be ill treated. This part of the story didn't work for me although Philipa gets her just deserts in the end.

Philipa makes Anne take her daughter place as Brodicks wife. The marriage was done by proxy. Brodick has never seen Mary. Anne must return home to Philipa once she had conceived and have the baby there and give it to Mary. Now this didn't make sense either becasue wouldn't Brodrick know is own wife? Brodick and Anne fall in love and his no the wiser that she isn't his legal wife. They have some very erotic sex Hot!! and they learn to trust and respect each other. They do get there HEA this was an excellent ending to the story. I highly Recommend In Bed With A Stranger, by Mary Wine. I really enjoyed it. This could have easily been a 5 star review but the foolishness of the Earl of Warwick, Anne's father all those years. Just didn't sit right with me. Why leave the family you love under the thumb of his evil wife. I didn't enjoy the narrator. He needs to study the Scottish Brogue and he doesn't sound like a female in those parts when a female is speaking.

What did you like best about this story?

The Ending!!

How could the performance have been better?

Bruce Mann needs to study the Scottish Brogue and making his voice would like a female when a female is speaking. I didn't like the narration at all.

I’m so sorry to say but...Awful Narration!!!

The story was good but I couldn’t handle the narrator. It truly pains me to say it but his voice, his tone, his accents were just awful. I hope this series will be redone with a good narrator.

Interesting

As always Mary gave very clear insight into life in medieval Scotland. The sex was hot I hadn’t realized that her books were so steamy. I enjoyed the historical nuggets through out the story. And many reviewers did not like the narrator but he was good especially on voices. I could easily recognize the male and female characters. He had a very good Scottish brogue. He was flat on passages but I’ve heard a lot worse so makeup your own mind. Don’t let the bad reviews on narrator cause you to miss out.

worst narrator ever!

I have listened to a lot of books on Audible and I can say without a doubt this is the worst narrator I've ever heard. I highly recommend for you to listen to the sample before purchasing this book. the narrator is so bad I can't honestly rate the story properly. I really wish audible would redo these books. I've enjoyed other Mary wine books but I cannot enjoy these due to the narrator. I'm not even going to read the second book that's how bad the narrator is

Narrator sounds like a computer!

I have enjoyed many audiobooks by Mary Wine, however, I was unable to listen to more than 5 minutes of this book before deleting it! The narrator sounds like a robot. If Bruce Mann is human, he needs to find a new profession.
