Wrong.

The moment I meet the VRC, I realize how very wrong I am. It’s fascinating how in a group filled with ancient beings, the only reasonable one is the human. Definitely not the grumpy vampire… or the other grumpy vampire… and don’t get me started on the eye-searing clothes the bubbly one wears.

And that’s when I run into Ender.

Well… run is probably the wrong word. It’s more like he accidentally saves my life, joins me for a fun torture fest from some guy who woke up on the wrong side of the bed, and then ends up fleeing through unknown territory with my naked body slung over his shoulder.

Is there a better meet-cute than all of that?

Probably not, as long as we ignore the real reason I’m here.

Ender

Keeping Rylee safe is the only thing I should care about. So then how is it that I find myself being pulled along by Mads, a member of the council that I’ve sworn to get rid of? He’s charismatic, charming, and really far too suspicious, but our paths merge as I fight to end an injustice that started hundreds of years ago.

Mads is making me realize that maybe there is more to my life than becoming a martyr for people who seem to think I’m the bad guy. While others see me as a monster, he sees who I really am.

And I will do anything to keep him from the danger he’s been drawn into.

The danger has never felt so real in this universe

This book brings so much for the vrc series that it blindsided me. The addition of a so called anti hero brings a new layer to the characters that we haven't had in this universe before. The villain in this book felt powerful and even with all the characters working together it is still a fight they might have casualties in. I look forward to future books of the series especially with the potential of danger all the characters are now in. It fills like the last few books keeps adding this tension of foreboding or danger that follows into the next book. The couple was slow burn and there banter had me laughing a ridiculous amount. The characters are powerful alone in there own ways but bring them together made something really special. The narrator really was good this book, even adding a voice I hadn't heard him use before in any of his past books. The storyline of this book is needed to make since of all the past villians plans and even motives. This book dives into the characters anger turds Ender but also his reasoning for his past actions which was really needed. I recommend this book and all the past in the series.

I really like the story of ender and madz there so cute together hope more side stories in the future and the villain death is the most satisfying one I hope he died longer but I guess that was okey

Another amazing story in the VRC series

Lovable characters. Fast paced action. Touching love story. Enders actions from the previous book are explained. Series ends on a positive note.

Alice did it again…

Every time you feel a bit iffy about a murderous and somewhat d!ckish character of Alice’s- she just laughs and makes you love them. Action, mayhem, heartbreak, humor and romance. Enjoy.

As always Alice winters writes another banger. I really hope we get to see more of Mads and Ender specifically. Narrator was amazing as always.

I was so excited for VRC book 6…

And Alice Winters totally delivered!
I was really curious to see how Ender would move from the role of antagonist to protagonist, and I thought the transition was done well. I also liked that neither we readers nor the characters were asked to forgive his past transgressions, just to understand them.
I also think Mads was a really good fit for Ender and just a fun character in general. Obviously it takes a long time for Ender to warm up to Mads, which totally makes sense, but the long lead up made their romance feel a little squished in during the last few hours or so. Ender’s more romantic feelings towards Mads felt a little abrupt, and I would’ve liked more on why Mads decided to like Ender to begin with. But again, I think it was a great pairing, they really suit each other.
The plot plot was good too, it made sense and tied into the other books really well. It was a little darker than the rest, mostly because of Ender‘s backstory, but humor was woven in here and there too. I really hope to see the overall story continue, and I think a lot of interesting avenues were left open at the end of this book.
Overall, definitely recommend.

Though if you’re a bit tender hearted like me, you might just want to skip chapter 18 completely. I thought it was definitely the most emotionally taxing part of the book, and you can pick up what happens later from context.
Also, I’m going to include a tiny spoiler below of something that did *not* happen in this book. I repeat, something that did *not* happen.











I am really, really hoping we get to see vampire Finn at some point. Alas, Finn is still just as human at the end of this one.
Not that it won’t be a hot mess, for the characters I mean. They’ll probably be super stressed about it, but I want to see Finn’s turning so bad.

I was on the edge of my seat through out the hold story. I was rooting for Ender the whole time.

I knew it… Remeption Story!

I knew I’d love Ender and Alice-you didn’t disappoint. These stories are never what you’d expect but I just absolutely love them all the more. This series is one of my absolute favorites and the characters and story development is incredible. Getting to j ow the history of Ender and also see all the pieces come together from the beginning of the series is amazing. I don’t know how you do it Alice - but please don’t ever stop. This could be read as a standalone but you’d be missing out on soooo much goodness and getting to know the characters from the start. I feel like the puzzle would be muted without the layering from book 1. This story of Ender and Mads was fantastic. I absolutely love the intelligent chaos that is Mads. Ender and his big heart that is hidden deep down and little Riley is just precious. 10 out of 5 stars.
