About this listen

A charming reminder of what it takes to be an exemplary woman - someone who is mindful of the effect she has on others and knows how to breeze through an awkward conversation with poise.

Of all the women you know, how many of them would you describe as "a lady"? Naturally, you know women who are kind and intelligent, witty and resourceful; but a lady is an altogether different variety of female. She's mindful of the effect she has on those around her, and she's careful not to let her words or appearance betray her true intentions.

How to Be a Lady is a charming reminder of what it takes to be an exemplary woman - someone who knows how to breeze through an awkward conversation with poise, or delicately sidestep the beauty salon gossip. Candace Simpson-Giles delivers a delightful refresher course on what it means to be a lady among women.

Ladylike Insporation

The only disagreeable moment was when they insisted on a lady not lying on her resume. Silly! A smart lady knows how the world works outside of the feminine realm. I love this book for feminine inspo while Ifold laundry and eat, etc.

boring and forgettable

struggled to finish and this is quite literally just a laundry list of things a lady does without reason or anecdote. The information just goes in one ear and out the other.

Cool to be a lady today

I’m so glad that I listened to this book. It helps me to feel more confident about my actions, my behavior, my attitudes, and my appearance. The world appears to be more casual today, but part of the reason for casualness is due to fear. For me, it’s important to get to know my own desires, ways I would like to express myself and how I would love to look. And then research and learn about how to best carry these things out. This book shows readers how to aim high. Thank you to the author for writing it, and to the narrator for expressing it beautifully.

more useful to a modern monarch

Most of this book is useless to the every day lady. I enjoyed this book and I plan on following it's advice but I can't give it more than 3 stars b.c so much doesn't apply to me (or anyone I know). As well as the fact that so much wasn't explained. For example, "a lady knows how to address a senior authority figure, she know that meeting such a person calls for more respect than meeting a peer..." And just moves on w.o giving more of an explanation or example. But will explain the reasoning or etiquette behind leaving a theatre during a coughing fit. This book would be more fitting for me if I were a Dutchess, but I'm just a 23 year old woman looking for a guide to politeness and etiquette to improve the quality of my life and relationships. I'm going to have to keep searching, but this was a nice preview. I hope it will be more helpful to others!

A lot of time could have been saved not repeating two words...

“A lady knows what colors, fabrics and patterns do nothing for her.” - from the department of the obvious

“A lady doesn’t text or talk when visiting others or when at a place of business” - that one is one I wish more people nowadays would follow.

It was okay but so repetitive with the “a lady....” repeated hundred of times.

I felt it was more like Miss Manners than anything particularly earth shattering.

It mostly made me think of classless people I know and reassure me that I’m not a snob for thinking, “manners never go out of style.”

Should be titled ‘Advice for Women’

I would not be surprised if this was made by AI. This is a list of good things women should know, not etiquette. Some things are repeated and there is no organization to the advice. I found the book very expensive for what you get.
