About this listen

What's a white knight to do when his princess is causing utter havoc leading in mass murder? Go to the famous Black Sorcerer of Grimslock for help, apparently.

What's a black sorcerer to do when the white knight comes to him for help? Keep him, naturally.

Devan does not approve of this payment plan. Tan does.

(This compilation includes a bonus short story. It is utter crack. Please do not look for any plot or serious element. You won't find it.)

What's Devan to do for his coronation? Hide.

What's Tan to do? Get a new crown.

Everything goes about as poorly as expected.

Themes: Black sorcerer, white knight, evil princess, oh my! This whole story is crack, technically an enemies-to-lovers tale, with light angst, mostly as an excuse for cuddles; sharing a bed, who hurt you is basically a marriage proposal; being adopted by a black sorcerer is like being adopted by a cat, you get no say in the matter; Tan is a walking disaster; Devan needs a hug, and Tan volunteers himself as tribute; I'm not saying baby adventurers are stupid, but if you put a candle next to their ears their eyes will shine; rule one when dealing with black sorcerers, don't piss them off; rule two is don't touch their knight; just a little killing; Serenity has successfully pissed Devan off for the last time; magical shenanigans shall now commence!

I am sooo happy to have this story in audio!! It is a fantastic read (read at least 5 times) and very entertaining in audio.
Kirk Griffin did an excellent job with the different voices for *each* character- there was no doubt who was talking. The range of voices was impressive, while some were not my (personal taste) favourite, I enjoyed every single one of them. He was great with the pacing, the snark, irony all the nuances of the story. Highly recommend, really!

Full disclosure: There are some audio issues, *BUT* not enough to keep you from enjoying this excellent story. I will be relistening to this book again.

Worth the looong wait!

story - fantastic
narration- excellent
quality- disappointing
at least 1 issue in every 3 chapters. Either voice fade out, or, where corrections, were much louder. Unintended overlaps or audio glitch sounds.

If it were not the fact it is an AJ Sherwood story - I would have returned the audiobook. The story, narrator, and plot are totally worth the sound issues, though I sincerely hope a return to quality recordings.

loved

This has been the best book I have listened to all year! I'm so glad the author decided to also go with this genre! Best purchase of the year!

I absolutely loved this series I’m kinda glad I didn’t finish reading them before the audio book came out so I got to enjoy the twists and turns of the later books. I also absolutely love that the author decided to release this audio book as the complete collection a lot of authors that wright short story series like this try to release each book separately for the same price and that really deters me from wanting to purchase them. I bought this book as soon as it came out I was so excited!

Loved the series

I read the different parts of the story as they were coming out, but I loved listening to it all as a whole! The narrator did an awesome job really capturing the personality of the individual characters! Really fun to read or listen, whichever your preferences! This is a lighthearted story that you can pick up when you have a few minutes or when you need something to lift your mood or distract you a bit, but it’s even more fun when you listen to it all in one go!

Hilarious and fun!

Best thing I ever read

The story here is great, AJ did an amazing kind of episodic story of how the evil sorcerer got the knight of the kingdom. It seems to be inspired extremely loosely by one of my favorite series, "Tales of Verania,"

The thing that kind of took me out of the experience was the audio.

In all honesty, most of it isn't the fault of the narrator or the author. There are audio issues here which get especially bad in labelled Chapters 12 and 24, but which have been fixed on other platforms, Audible is just so difficult to let authors change anything (this author particularly has had issues with Audible just deleting some of her books). The audio seems disjointed sometimes, as though it is a line by line read instead of a story narration, which isn't the case.

However, even without the audio, the narrator isn't my favorite. While he did an excellent job giving each character a unique voice, that stay distinct throughout the story, alot of those voices felt wrong for the characters, the only ones I found fit the character vibes were Tan, Fa, and Welles. It's a new narrator, and given his skill in keeping voices distinct, im definitely willing to hear more from him, but I feel I would have enjoyed this book more reading rather than listening.

Excellent Story, Not my favorite Narrator

In a couple spots there is a little voice over the main voice. Other than that it was great.
