if you have children, or are often in the proximity of children, read this and be inspired, humbled, and delighted. this is a book i will come back to over and over as the years go by.

This book provides great information on the way children think/learn. It really makes you think about the idea of learning and has made me watch my children more thoughtfully. I'm glad I gave it a listen!

Every single parent should read this book and then put into practice everything in it. It will change absolutely the way you look at your children and how they learn.

Insight of a careful observer

John Holt saw the flaws of the education system 50 years ago. Those fissures have grown into huge gaping holes, to the point that the younger generations, especially the “well educated” ones, view the world through a distorted lens. The education establishment has produced mostly degraded products, and our society is in grave danger because of this.
Highly recommended for parents who want to bring up their children intelligent, independent, creative and entrepreneurial. They are our only hope. Without them the great American Experiment would come to an end.

Best for how kids learning.

Probably the best book i have been reading so far about this topic. Not so many non sense and time comsuming like other books on this topic. Deifinitely recommended.

Crazy We’re STILL Arguing Over A Failing Education System

John Holt does a phenomenal job at articulating what we’ve all seen with “delays” in learning and does actually highlight - though not intentionally - what actual “unschooling” is. You must still teach your children to read, but at their leisure when they escalate, and they will!

I’ve never made so many notes on a book before and recommend this for anyone curious about childhood development, education, and the oddly cyclical lack of transformation the public system has taken for the benefit of children.

As a millennial nostalgic for the simplicity of the 90’s, I aspire to homeschool my children for their young years as I watch the school system be over inflated, cost ineffective, and fail students as it has for decades. Bureaucracy has obliterated the tried and true nuance of child growth and development. How they learn, the significance of parental involvement, and treating children like little adults, are lost gems of knowledge; parents have bought into the cool aid that only “trained professionals” can educate children. And it just isn’t so. I’m recommending this book to everyone.

incredible, glad I read this

Well read, excellent. This was read with such understanding and conviction, I almost thought it was the author himself. The content here is inspiring. A great read as I am new to homeschooling, unschooling, and intentional parenting.
