Acerca de esta escucha

Former con artist Katherine "KC" Carmichael inherits the Honey House, a Bed and Breakfast located in the tiny town of Juniper Springs, AZ, a hotbed of the paranormal tourism industry. It doesn't take her long to discover that both the town and the House are keeping secrets.

The town plays up its over-the-top paranormal reputation with fake werewolf photo safaris and psychic vortexes. It's all in good fun until an investigative journalist is found murdered in KC's backyard. As the only ex-con in town, KC becomes Sheriff Quinn's favorite - in more ways than one - but something doesn't add up when he throws her in jail for breaking the full moon curfew. Could the werewolves and witches be real?

With multiple murders and men to distract her, KC needs to discover her own hidden magic in order to survive.

Wow... this is such a good book... of course you need to take into account the fact that I love quirky, adore a little paranormal in my romance, and eat up the whole strong heroine from a broken soul thing! I DON’T like werewolves and if I’d actually looked at the cover art I might not have given this book a second glance, and in hindsight I’m very glad that that didn’t happen because this was such a good tale regardless of the shapeshifter thing. Witches, all forms of magic YES, shapeshifting or blood sucking, NO!

It was a GREAT listen too! Such an excellent performance. Five big shiny stars to Sonja Field.

Heat Factor, chart busting! Although so tastefully done that I didn’t even mind the assorted combinations....

Creditworthy? Good golly YES!

Totally unique! Completely enjoyable!

I was blown away by this book. Laura Harner has created an imaginative and realistic world for a great cast of characters. KC is one of the most realistic characters portrayed in a paranormal mystery/romance that I have enjoyed in a while. She is strong, smart and loyal. She's not afraid to speak her mind and stand up for herself, despite her past. The other characters are also strong and there is still plenty of mystery with each character. I also enjoyed the flow of the story. I didn't feel the need to skip ahead once. I will warn against listening to this while driving. Some of the scenes can be...distracting. This is a great book and I look forward to listening the next in the series.

Phenomenal story

I came into this book a little blind, didn't read the blurb just before reading. I ended up pleasantly surprised! What a great story, and hopefully start to the series!

I loved KC and her snarky sass! She has a slightly jaded outlook, but she has earned it through life. Seeing the layers of her story peel away was fantastic. It wasn't a shocking reveal, but definitely kept me engaged. You really get a feel for what has shaped her.

The whole book is from her POV, which limits things a bit. I really wanted a peek into the supporting characters heads, especially Quinn and Owen. Just to have an inkling of how they feel would be great.

Hello smexy scenes!!! Heck yeah the bedroom door is kicked open!!! And not to give anything away, it gets steamy more then once!!! This girl has some serious attractions happening with a few hotties!! Triple Fan Face!

The paranormal elements of this story could be stronger. The world is still loosely defined. I am interested in seeing it progress with the series. There are many unanswered questions still about KC, the Honey House and the town in general.

I listened to the audiobook narrated by Sonja Field, who is great. I love her the sassy raspy to her voice, it really sells KC's attitude. The men were also very well done, she hits just the right amount of depth to carry them. Her pace is swift and the read is energetic. Can't wait to find more of her reads!

Overall, I am thrilled to have found another author to stalk...I mean follow. She has a couple other series I need to check out. I really hope to see more of her work in audio...soon!!

Disclosure - I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts, opinions and ratings are my own.

Great first book in the series!! Give me more!

What disappointed you about Honey House?

Where do I begin? With the writer or the narration? Really cannot blame Sonja Field for her narration when what she has to read is bad. So it was the writing. Laura Harner's writing in the same class as a college freshman's English essay.

What was most disappointing about Laura Harner’s story?

The story sounded interesting from the jacket's description, but it didn't live up to it's hype. The story should have kept to the paranormal and not to the sexual paranormal. I'm not a prude, but when a writer uses the F word and the P word during the sex scenes, she or he has run out of words. I felt those words were use to shock the reader, and for me it just made me ill. I was more interested in the possibility of a three some, but was disappointed it never happened. Almost everything to do with the heroin and her paranormal discovery, was nothing other than sex. Laura scene changes were also abrupt. So much so, I felt this was an abridged version of her book.

What didn’t you like about Sonja Field’s performance?

I guess she did an okay job. She didn't have much to work with. All the young viral males and sounded the same, all the older women did too. When she had to read the sex scenes, one might ask if she may have not enjoyed reading them.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Anger and disappointment. Anger I was duped into buy this book, and angry with myself for listening to the whole seven hours of it. I really kept hoping it would get better, but trust me, it didn't.

Any additional comments?

Paranormal fantasy fans save your time & money, this was a waste. Fans of hot sex scenes, ditto.
