About this listen

Kearny and Donny MacGregor are famous hoaxers whose lineage can be traced to a long line of conmen and tricksters. Hours before the brothers perform a successful crop circle hoax, they are approached about creating an Earth light hoax for the mayor of Stony Creek, the Bigfoot capital of northern California. Earth light is a general term used to describe unknown lights in the sky, and the mayor of Stony Creek believes that this second "phenomenon" will help pull the town from its revenue slump. After several successful Earth light hoaxes, a loose group of truth seekers forms, lead by Sheriff Nicki Stanford and local Bigfoot debunker Possum, and the chase is on.

Crop Circles, Bigfoot, Giant Gators, Earth lights!

This is one of those rare gems that you find on a beach in the sand. It is a straight book that deals with a pair of hoaxing brothers who get hired to perform a job that will finally net them some much deserved money for their efforts. The only problem is that sometimes the reality is more unbelievable than the hoax. Couple that with a suspicious sheriff and a debunking pest who just can't stop snooping their job becomes even harder.

The MacGregor family is an utter joy to follow through these passages. They are funny and consummate professionals, until one of them gets hit with love at first sight, that is. Also, the scheming mayor and Ant are a pair to be reckoned with, and really play well off the brothers. The story lets you see how they tackle their hardships, and that no matter what they trust each other to get the job done. I really liked the pair of scoundrels.

Jack de Golia really brings his A game to this book. His narration is rock steady and he adds a wink and a nod in all the right places. He does a great job on the voices, and really lets you know when you should be sweating. I am always impressed when I hear him doing his thing. He is great at conveying the emotional depth of the tale, and keeping things interesting to you. I could listen to him all day. Even though I did receive a promo code for this review it in no way influenced my considerations of the material, and in fact, inspired me to be more honest. In fact, getting a code generally makes me harsher as a reviewer as I am more often concerned what someone like Me will decide based on my review.

Original concept, and a great performance!

OK, this one ( part of the Audible Plus series ) is totally original, with the overarching concept something I don't recall ever have heard before. For his part, Jack de Golia is outstanding, bringing a disparate and challenging group of characters together in a fresh and compelling fashion. The story drags a bit towards the conclusion, but on balance is a solid offering, and worth picking up, whether it's free or a credit. Recommended.

Good

Brothers who are in perfect unison as hoaxers. Plenty of mayhem and laugh with good narration. Given audio for my voluntary review

Delightfully entertaining!

If you could sum up Hoaxers in three words, what would they be?

Delightfully witty entertainment.

What did you like best about this story?

I loved how the two MacGregor brothers fit in their nicknames perfectly as Donkey! one is the head & the other is the tail. A perfect fit!

Which scene was your favorite?

I loved it when the MacGregor brothers thought they saw Bigfoot for real and ran for their lives!

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I laughed a lot! A very well written witty story. It is funny to see how hard people will work to create a hoax & the efforts they will go to make it believable!

Any additional comments?

This is a very enjoyable book! It has a great storyline & plot. Parts of this book even had me talking back to them saying how could you not see that coming? The Author, Edward J McFadden III did a really great job getting the point across in this book. The narrator, Jack de Golia delivered another superb story, with all his multiple voices! Good job guys!

Entertaining

It's a bit on the silly side, and very predictable, but still entertaining if you don't have anything better to do. Narration was decent, too. There was a lot of nonsense going on, but from reading the blurb, that's expected. The thing that I didn't like was that the boys thought that their hoaxes were okay, but their father's weren't, sort of a holier than thou attitude. I probably won't listen to it again, but I won't discourage anyone from giving it a listen. It was fairly well written, as far as grammar goes, no glaring errors that I noticed, but don't be expecting a literary classic. I do see the possibility of sequels in the future, which I would probably listen to. I received a free copy of this audiobook from Audiobooks Unleashed and am voluntarily leaving my honest review.
