About this listen

This is Book five of A Dark Faerie Tale Series but a listener may start here in the series.

No one knows the secrets he keeps.

No one knows of the worlds that exist right alongside ours.

Benton is human, but he walks the line between two worlds: the mundane and the supernatural; the commonplace and the extraordinary. As a rare Fire Elemental Warlock, he finds himself in trouble more often than he cares to admit. It doesn't help that his sister is a Faery Queen of the Summer Seelie Court.

This is Benton's story as he makes his way between the mortal world and a world where magic reigns. Do you dare follow? Do you dare see what lurks just beyond the edge of perception?

Loved it

This is probably my favorite book of the series. I read the book when it first came out and loved it so as was thrilled to get the audio. Josh Click did an amazing job with the narration. When they first get to Chicago looking for Sari’s brother Ferdinand is some of the best book audio I have ever listened to. The goons voices in the distance was awesome! Definitely recommend you get this book

Can't get enough of this series

I love this series. This was definitely a great read/listen. I really like that Benton had his own book. There's even more of him in the future from how this ended. We get to see some of the other characters too , of course.

The narration was OK. but not really my favorite like with the other books. I'm sure because this needed to be a man's voice. The main character's voice was good but the other characters sounded monotone. Except when there was an Irish accent. That was SO well done. Even when I wasn't crazy about the narration, it still wasn't bad enough to make me not want to listen. I still got lost in the story and it didn't bother me.

Entertaining story

I really enjoyed this spin off story from the Dark Faerie Tales that follows Benton (who is a Fire Elemental and the Sealie Queen's brother) as he attempts to clean up the unsealie that had escaped into the human world. I enjoyed Benton's character; he is tough, fierce, determined but somewhat impulsive and at times cares little for his own safety. Even though he seems to act before thinking, which causes big problems for Shade, you can not help but like him. In this book we also begin to get some of the history of the Elementals and of Benton's family. I loved how the author wove the snippets from his dead Uncle's grimoire into the story, creating depth and intrigue. The narrator of the audiobook did good job of bringing the story to life and giving the characters individual voices. This is an exciting start to the series; it has intrigue, fights, twists, magic and surprises. It can be read as a standalone but if you want the back story on the other characters then you should read the original series. I look forward to the next in the series.

Exciting & Entertaining Series

I have enjoyed this series more & more as I read/listen. History of Fire offered a nice spin from Benton’s viewpoint, & was never lacking on the thrills of the fae realm. The scene with Oron had me so nervous as I did not see that coming! I’m still unsure how I feel about Seery’s reaction though. Looking forward to book 6!

Good look into Benton

I think this story was well done from Benton’s point of view. He is young and cocky and the author did a great job of showcasing that. He is strong but has a lot of learning to do and, he can’t do it all on his own.

Lots of characters that we get to meet and lots that we learn more about.

The narrator did a great job with the voices in this one!

Looking forward to the next book in the series.
