About this listen

One April morning I left the Mexico border and walked north on the Pacific Crest Trail. For five months I hiked through the California desert, the snows of the Sierra Nevada, and the Cascade Mountains of Oregon and Washington. My goal was to succeed in an epic challenge: to hike 2,650 miles and reach Canada before the October snows.

It was an unforgettable summer of sunrises, river crossings, and high mountain passes; of physical and mental challenges and peaceful wilderness camps under the stars. In the fall colors of September I reached the border of Canada. This is the story of my thru-hike.

So fun!

I have read two of Bucks stories. I come away truly envious of his adventures. I find myself wondering what my trail name would be. I can almost feel the shin splints as he hikes along and I try to keep up with he and the others.

Being a partial pct hiker I figured you would mention saw tooth or Indian heaven wilderness. (My local area) ah I am sure there are too many beautiful landmarks to name them all. Thank you for a great story that aloud me to escape work and be on the trail.

Great PC Trail book

Great recounting of this hike! Just enough personal detail, introduction to other characters on the trail , natural commentary, and factual info. I've enjoyed it twice now!

Easy listening to a good adventure

Good account of his trek along the PCT. Pretty descriptive but kept the story moving at a good pace. Quick listen and well worth it. Makes me excited to explore the sections of the trail near me.

Interesting story of hiking the PCT

Bru e doesn't just talk about the hike, he shares tidbits of wisdom. I especially liked when mentioned the Jefferson Wilderness in Oregon or catching the bus to Stehiken, WA both places I backpacked in.

An above average through hike memoir

The author does a great job of providing lots of details such as miles, camps, elevations, etc without becoming monotonous and seeming like a long list. He does a great job of transporting his reader's into his shoes.

A very good PCT book

I enjoyed the story. The author has a great deal of knowledge and is very practical. There is a lot to learn here and his visual illustrations of the landscapes paint a wonderful picture. The only downside is that the narration is far too fast for my taste. I had to slow it down to .8 to experience a relaxing listen. Not much of a downside given that it can be controlled.

I loved this story.

The performance was perfect. This is one author who is great at telling their own story.
The story gave a shoulder's eye view of hiking the PCT. Enough to understand the companionship of other hikers, enough to realize the personal journey. The author spoke of beauty and adversity on the trail. He did it in a way that one understands and does not tire of the narrative.
It is not my turn to do any thru hike. When it is, I hope spin my tale in this interesting and thoughtful way. I highly recommend this book.
