Way TOO preachy!

I'll start by saying that this was one of the best books I've read about the Appalachian Trail. Unfortunately, which is not covered in the description of this book, is that the author was using this book as a means to spread the word of God. I almost gave it a 1 because I spent nearly $20 for a book that I thought was about the Appalachian Trail , and it was but it was also lots and lots of preaching.

Good hiking story, even with christian theme

I really enjoyed hearing his perspective on the trail. The way he related Life to "life on the trail" was very inspiring. And while at first I was apprehensive when he introduced much of the Christian aspects to his story, I realize that that is just a part of him and if I want to read the book and understand his perspective I have to take all of his perspective and not just some of it. This book helped me to more readily accept people who believe in God again. And also gave me good spiritual insights to my own life. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who's interested in hiking or a good thought.

very awesome narration, story was excellent, it is pulling at my strings of wander lust. the message was fantastic Amen.

Enthralling story

A largely Christian theme is woven throughout this book. I'm not a Christian or religious at all, but I was able to just look at that aspect of the story as part of the writers journey. That is his take on life and while it's different than mine, I still respect his opinion. Overall, a great story. Listened for hours at a time, completely enthralled. Great account of what it's like to hike the AT; something I will do in the next few years.

love the book, unexpected spiritual surprise

I thought I was reading another through hiker book but instead found a book of great spiritual insight. I just lost my Grandfather this book spoke volumes to me.

Not a true Appalachian trail book.

I found this book to be more of a religious experience rather than a guide.

Interesting story with some important lessons. Not sure the narrator was the right fit. There is a lack of alignment between his tone and the words.

Great journey

This story is so true to life's journey. Setting a goal and making choices along the way, causing consequences and triumphs. I enjoyed this trail story it encouraged me to set new goals.

Inspiring and Profound

Although there was a lot of background at the beginning and it was a bit slow to get to the part I most wanted to read about, his thru hike, I'm glad I stuck with this. It turned out to be a great AT read and I enjoyed all the details of his hike and the people he met. I would've loved a bit more of the epilogue--more about how it felt to get back to his regular life, if he kept in touch with the people he met, what became of them, etc.

I'm especially glad that his faith is interwoven through the whole story, as it made his experience so much more moving and profound, as well as providing some great food for thought and application in my own life. This made it stand out amongst all the other AT literature out there and really took things to another level. I really enjoyed this book and didn't want it to end.

Well done, Apostle, for hitting your goal and also for being obedient to what God asked you to do.
