An Adventurous Spirit in an Independent Woman

It was a great story, moving over many years in the life of a girl, growing up to be an independent woman. Many short stories among the novel, each place she moved to or new job had its own little story going on within the plot of the novel. I liked the strong, independent woman who was the main character. She had much courage. I liked the detail, it was a good amount to get into the characters without getting lost in too many subplots. Then, after giving us all of that detail, the story ended abruptly. I felt like it could have gone on a bit longer to tie up the lose ends. Narration was good.

How many times did I think the same thoughts as both Marta and Heldi? We can’t read minds. I now feel as if some of my very own questions have been answered. Thank you

The story showed how blind one can be to their own faults. It took this mother years to figure out.

Wonderful story wonderfully performed!

Francine Rivers has outdone herself with this story. It is rivetting from the very beginning and the reader's command of pronunciations is tremendous. The listener feels and sees exactly what Marta feels and sees....my first thought was that Her Mother's Hope had to with Marta's mother's hope for her....later I realized it was not only the hope of Marta's mother for her but also Marta's hope for her own daughter whom she sees as another frail soul like her sister Elise....yet Marta's daughter is tremendously strong.....and when the voice of the story changes, it is okay.
One of the very good things about this story is the fact that reading the Bible and trying to follow its teachings are very important items. This is not one of those "Christian" fiction stories which apparently acquire their name/description by the fact that "the Lord" is mentioned periodically within but without any attempt for anyone to live up to God's standards and/or to be like Jesus Christ.

Great story telling!

Francine Rivers is my favorite Christian author. She's a wonderful story teller. It's hard for me to ever put her books down!

Wow Long story, but well worth for the awesome story of love and Hope! Bravo! Time to get another by Francine Rivers! She has Awesome Stories!
