About this listen

Seventeen years ago Carolina McKay escaped death at the hands of a psychopath. Now she’s come home, and so has the killer.

After she’s shot in the line of duty, Detective Carolina McKay returns to her hometown hoping to rebuild her life and conquer her demons. But before she can even unpack, a college student is found dead in a ditch.

The crime scene looks familiar. Too familiar. Has the madman who terrorized Carolina’s childhood, reemerged? Or is a new killer copying those old murders?

When another woman goes missing, it’s clear the local police force is outmatched. Can Carolina unravel the mystery before more girls end up dead? Or will she be the killer’s next victim?

This story moved so slowly, and had little to keep me interested! I kept struggling to get through it and finally made it. I actually found it boring at times. The story was good but definitely needed more excitement.

Could have been better!

Let me begin by saying this book was WELL outside my normal genre, but it sounded so interesting that I had to give it a listen. I'm glad I gave it a chance. The author was very descriptive in laying out her scenes, and the entire book was well thought out with enough twists and turns that the ending was NOT one I saw coming.

If this is your genre, you will definitely enjoy this book!

Well done!

This is the first book in this series. Carolina comes home and starts out helping in an investigation to a murder. I stayed interested in this book throughout the whole book. Something was always going on that kept me wanting to see what was going to happen. It was easy to follow and I'll continue to the next book. I want to see where Carolina's character goes next. I also liked the side characters. I like series where the main character can grow and you can become more and more connected with them. I think this is going to be a series I can enjoy. Jess Combs does a great job narrating this book. If my review is any help will you please click on the helpful link below. Thank you.

The narrator was not the best. She made it sound childish. I don’t like criticizing, but I only finished because I had already paid for it.

Just kind of meh…

It started off pretty good, but the main character drove me crazy. The ending made no sense and I'm not sure why she went that way.

Started off good a little disappointed in the ending.

A totally unbelievable ending. A plot twist is one thing, but this was totally unbelievable.

good until the end

I didn’t like much. Weak story. Under developed characters. Many dangling plot elements. Frankly it was a wasted credit to buys this book

Underwhelming then ridiculous

I couldn’t get past the second chapter. The narrator is slow and monotone. I wish I could get my credit back.

Horrible narrator
