Heartbreaking and such bravery

I would loved to have know this family In Alsace France. Such bravery for such young people It was a very sad novel but triumphed in the end The very last ten minutes I never saw coming

Loved this book. The story was intriguing and a fascinating slice of yet another heartbreaking piece of WWII’s many facets.

Heartbreakingly Brilliant

I love this book. I could not stop listening! I felt my emotions rising and falling, laughing, smiling and crying. The narrator is spot on! This is a must listen to audible. I didn't want it to end!

A wonderful telling of a dramatic story

She takes thru the life and time of WW2 that type so many families apart.

Such Bravery.

I started listening to this book while I was vacationing in Colmar, France. I was told that it would provide a great history lesson for the area. I totally agree with that statement. My only regret is that I didn't start it earlier so that I could see Colmar, Rebeauville, and the mountains through a different lens.

overall good listen

I have listened to hundreds of WW2 books.

I did like this one..it kept my interest...I did find myself disgusted with the character Marie Claire...
The story allowed me to research the area. I also looked at pictures of the area to give my mind an idea of how the land lay.

What a heart- breaking and at the same time heart- warming story. Even though it is fiction, it all rang true according to historical accounts.

Good character development

I appreciated the character development of Marie Claire. I also really love the cameos of characters from the author’s other books!

This is one of the best books I have “read” (on Audible) in a long time. Great WW2 story. Reader was engaging as well. Will be looking into other books by this author.

One of my favorites!

The story and performance will grab you. The ending is perfect! I was unaware of the church’s involvement.
