About this listen

It's not easy being human when Earth is run by aliens.

Lena has been locked up, imprisoned in a multi-species penitentiary on Earth, and all she wants is to get back to what she's good at: keeping her sister safe.

Kormak is a Levekk - a member of the same cold-blooded alien species that enslaved her planet - and he is the key to her escape.

Kormak hates humans, and he's not afraid to show it. They burn hot and bright but are snuffed out quickly, and the last thing he wants is a human slowing him down.

But she needs a protector, and he's drawn to her flame. When an accident derails their escape and strands them in the wintry wilderness, just who will end up saving whom?

Contains mature themes.

Well built post-apocalyptic world where humans are at the bottom of society after being conquered and occupied by multiple species of aliens . The author creates a world where the aliens are not exactly humanoid and I had moments I doubt how they would work. I swear I could hear the silence between the two as they made their way to New Chicago . Despite the odd pairing, the narrative arc works and builds to a crescendo worth the wait .

Prison break alien romance

This isn’t the usual predictable abduction/fated mate trope. The couple finds themselves in an impromptu escape from prison together. It’s a slow burn, heartfelt, enemies-to-friends-to-lovers romance full of action and suspense. It’s intelligent, fun, sweet, and sexy. The chemistry is hot! But it’s not the focal point. It’s a natural part of the storyline that grows organically along with the relationship. The world building was vivid, thoughtful and enjoyable.

I tried this Plus Catalog option on a whim because I enjoy sci-fi romance. I was very impressed and surprised by the skilled writing and talented story telling from this previously unknown author. Now that I’ve discovered her, I would gladly spend a credit on her other Audiobooks.

I generally prefer dual narration. But it’s not possible with this book, which was written in third person. The narrator did a phenomenal job voicing the characters and their inner thoughts.

Highly recommend!

Romance on the run

I loved this story. It’s a short little story about a human helping an alien and then the an alien helping a human.

Cold-blooded aliens

a daring prison escape and an adventure back to the city for a resourceful human and a grumpy alien who dislikes humans. I really like the one on one character interaction, how they were each useful in surviving their situations and how they slowly realised the truth about the other. they became a team and it makes their connection more meaningful then just insta love. will he chose his personal revenge mission or a new future of happiness he'd never imagined? will she let him go it fight just as hard for him as she does her sister?

spoiler alert there's a HEA. the narrator is good too. I don't usually like one narrator reading both parts,

great!!!

I enjoyed this romance about a couple from different species who learn that appearances can be deceptive and everyone has a past and baggage. It really should not be so hard to accept differences whether in fiction or real life.

Not What You Seem

I will listen to the next book. I’m hoping it’s as good as this book.

This audiobook was very entertaining. The heroine is in a prison for a minor crime, almost done with her sentence, when she’s accosted by the slimy prison warden and fights back. Thrown into a solitary cell, she’s miserable until she sees a large alien sneaking out of the prison. She begs him to take her with him, but he leaves anyway. Finding that her cell door is unlocked, she follows after him and he grudgingly allows it, even giving her a hand. Over the course of their travels back to New Chicago, they fall in love. Unfortunately, once they get there, he parts ways with her so he can confront his old boss (a mobster) whose actions got him sent to prison. I’m not going to give away any spoilers, but the ending is happy and the storyline well written. Narration was well done.

Great Alien romance

I don’t understand why the first review for this stated the female lead fell into the male leads arms. They worked together and learned admiration for each other as well as how to help the other with their weaknesses. It was a really good start and a nice way to start the series.

Strong female lead

The storyline was entertaining and just right length without dragging on the story just to make the story longer.

Not boring
