About this listen

Dale Stoner loved women, and women seemed to love him right back. He danced around the line that led to seriousness, but any time one woman got too close, he two-stepped back, quick and pretty as you please. He's fallen in love before and he doesn't want to go that route again. No woman was ever going to get close to him again.

The only exception is his best friend, Lauren. She's the only one who really matters. But she's his friend...and guys don't sleep with their best friends, do they?

Lauren wasn't the kind of woman to believe in love at first sight, but then she met Dale. He's everything she shouldn't want - a flirt, a woman chaser...and he's also in love with somebody else.

But one hot, steamy night changes everything...

sweet love story

sweet love story from friends to lovers. This is not the best romance but it's pretty good for a short listen. The story didn't grab my attention but I wanted to give it a chance. I'm glad I did. If you like light romance, this one is for you. The narrators did excellent job. They were the main reason, I didn't give up listening. BRAVO to them!

Surprised me...

The beginning started off in full swing and seemed to be one of those story that just ran on without depth. but it slowed and filled in, and before I knew. I was addicted.
The sexiness was HOT, i had to rewind to make sure i heard what I thought it said. very good writing in that department. Overall, I enjoyed the story and it was tied very well.

A beautiful love story

A beautiful love story
My first book by Shiloh Walker. I get to listen to it because of the excellent narrator Douglas Berger (aka JPM). I will look for more from this author. Both narrators did a wonderful job by delivering the emotions of their characters.
Loved it and totally recommend this audiobook

just ok

I had high hopes for this book but it just kind of fell flat. 1st of all the storyline was interesting but felt like did not take advantage of it...the story felt like they were trying to make the book longer and added unnecessary parts... The beginning was slow but then it picks up in the middle and then falls flat at the end... The last 2 hours I just fast forward through... The narrators were OK the female narrator could have been better I felt like she was just reading and did not put a lot of heart into it Almost stop the book because of her narration.

I’m not sure how to word this

I’m a HUGE fan of this author. The stories grab me and I’m hooked until I finish the book. At first I thought, “I’m not looking for a seedy sexapade”. Only to later under stand how crucial to this story it actually was. This story is not for everyone. I do wish audible had more from him and/or JC Daniels. I’ve truly read or listened to everything accessible.

Her best friends lover

The story was good, but the way the narration was done almost made me stop reading. Male narrator reads female narration and female reads male narration, the flow or the story is confusing sometimes because it jumps from Lauren to Dale to another character all together.

Really Awful MCs, especially the H!

2.25 Stars for me!

Is this a multipart story? No
Does it end in a cliffhanger? No
Story Type and Subtypes: Drama Romance
Instalove? No

My rating range of this story... 1 - 3.25 Stars
If significant, why? The initial hookup scene was essentially rape... see final notes.
Biggest deduction? 2 Stars - glamorizing sexual assault actions - although I don't believe that is what the author intended.

Main Character Ratings...
H (Dale) = 3/10 - Selfish A-hole Manwhore
h (Lauren) = 3/10 - From strong to solid doormat
TSTL Moment(s)? Only when it involves sex

Narrator Rating(s)
M (Mikael Naramore) = 7/10
F (Amy McFadden) = 8/10
If below 5/10, why?

Was cheating involved? Technically no
Any major triggers to be aware of? Attempted sexual assault, then a week later a sex scene that screamed rape

If Comedy... Type? n/a
Funny, Cute, Cringe Inducing, Mixed or Just No!

Angst Level? Heavy
Light, Moderate, Heavy or Please Stop
3 Stars for me!

Internal Monolog/Dialog? Heavy
Light, Moderate, Heavy or Please Stop

Scenes with heat... Several
What point does it start? 30%
How much of the story? 25%
Anything beyond M/F? No
If yes, explained

Heat Rating... 8/10
Clean or Fade to Black - 1 or 2
Normal to Descriptive 3-5
Detailed Descriptive Sex - 6-7
Um, Wow, Beyond Descriptive Sex - 8 or above

Was there so much sex or unrealistic sex that you rolled your eyes and/or skipped forward? Yes

The back story... The H is in love with a woman who doesn't want him so he only has sexual relationships with women until they want more, then he moves on to the next... a lot. The h is in love with the H, her best friend, but she is squarely in his friend zone, until he isn't.

Romance or Gist: Hard to grasp - see final notes.

The drama explosion... The H finds out that the h kept a huge secret from him.
Did it feel Real, OK or contrived? Ugh
Was it OTT? Very
Separation involved? Short
Was it resolved properly or rushed? Ok

Final Notes... Light spoilers below.

1. The h goes on a double date with the H, his current sexual partner and his buddy. His buddy is all about getting the h naked and tries to force the issue. The h, strong in karate, fights him off just as the H comes back. The H takes a couple of shots at the creep and he falls into her garden. The h is upset at her friend because he didn't see the signs that his buddy was making her uncomfortable and was giving off rapey vibes.

2. The next week, she comes over to give some forgiveness as she felt that she was too harsh with him... SPOILER - SHE WASN'T! She finds that he is nearly blackout drunk but he still has enough in him to realize that he is hot for her, then pushes her into having sex. Mind you, she is a 25 year old virgin (he does not know) and has told him that she refuses to have casual sex. He passes out and she decides to clean him up, dress him and then leave so he won't remember that she was there (remember, blackout drunk).

2a. Problem #1: She says No and STOP and he pushes on saying that she will love it... telling her that she wants it. He continues to push through, even though he knows that he is making her uncomfortable.

2b. The author excuses the assault by pointing out that he gets blackout drunk (see #4 below). The h also excuses it by saying that she did want it to occur afterwards But while it was beginning, she wanted him to stop.

3. While she is at the doctor to find out why she has been exhausted for the past few weeks and has a persistent upset stomach, the author goes into minor detail about the H screwing another woman at the exact same time. Kinda gross. Well, the h loses her virginity and is now preggo but refuses to tell the H because she knows what it is like to not be wanted. No therapy and no honesty between best friends... that is not friendship. The lie becomes the drama Flashpoint then fizzles out because he is reformed and thinks that he is in love with her.

4. If he gets blackout drunk from time to time and can forget having sex, especially unprotected sex, how does he know that he didn't do it before?

5. He seems to be able to have sex, ejaculate, then continue having sex immediately and not go down a bit. Huh? Medical miracle? Unicorn?? He also uses sex to solve problems... is there a pattern here?
