About this listen

She was called Belle from Hell....

As fierce and indomitable as any man, Isabelle of Langston rules the family lands with an iron hand after her father's death. But the brazen beauty meets her match in Hugh Fauconier, bold knight and rightful Saxon heir to Langston Keep. By the King's hand, he is made her husband. Hugh's virile prowess reveals to Belle the delicious pleasures of the flesh, as their turbulent days of verbal sparring melt into nights of erotic abandon.

But a treacherous plot enslaves Hugh to the evil Vivienne d'Bretagne, a sorceress whose sexual magic is as powerful as it is dark. Discovering the castle lair where her husband is enchanted, Belle is caught, and rendered helpless by the twisted passion of Vivienne's brother, Guy. But not even her captor's devious ecstasy can destroy her will to free her beloved Hugh....

I enjoyed how the story turns from predictable ish to mythological in a sense. very fun and unique.

I wasn’t sure I’d like a romance set in the 1100s. My preferred genre is Regency romance which usually take place in the drawing room with an occasional trip to Gretna Green or flashback to the Peninsula. This book was more of a “sweeping” historical romance set in a number of different locales, with many interesting minor characters, and one challenge after another to overcome. It was totally engrossing.
The only problem was that I developed a tendre for the antihero, with his black hair, violet eyes, and seductive ways.

It was still a five star book, but the HEA made me a little sad.

Engrossing with a charming anti-hero

Well not to sure about this book. The age of "The Hellion" is little young it made me feel icky in some scenes. Spoiler: kidnapping/hostage (not really spoiler every romance has one) it got a bit weird and downright dirty with way too much sex. This was the first time I listened to this author kind of bummed.

A bit too much

Good story and excellent narration! Love the descriptions of food, clothing and environment. Enjoyed another of Ms. Smalls novels.

Lusty and Historically Fascinating

The performance was beautiful! Danielle Cohen does a phenomenal job with accents. I do recommend listening to it at 1.2x or 1.3x. I don’t usually listen sped up, but this book sounds great at those speeds. It is an interesting romance, however keep in mind it takes place in the 1100s, so women were married off at young ages (13-15). As a warning, I think it needs to be mentioned there is a scene of underage non-con, however that is not the main character and it is just the one short scene.

This story has a fantastic and interesting twist in the last third or so of the book! I recommend listening to it for that.

I love Belle from Hell! I love the fact that she maintained her teenage personality throughout the first part of the novel. I loved the feeling of watching her grow and seeing how she matured. Even then she didn't lose her spunky personality. The sibling characters that were introduced were real treat and gave a GREAT twist to climax of the novel. The entire time they were there I kept feeling so much suspense over, "how will they get away" and "is someone going to die?" Towards the end when they finally get back home they have a quarrel and I didn't care for that. It felt unnecessary since they had been through so much.

Overall a good lengthy listen for a long drive. Thanks!

Ok Bertrice Small, I see you....

The story was way too drawn out. And the names of lesser characters seemed excessively repetitive. A change of letter to name a new character only works once. Maybe.

This was not my favorite listen

After listening to the O'Malley Saga, all of the books. all the stories, and enjoying ALL of them, the characters, history, narration, etc. this book was a disappointment!!

Historically interesting, that's about it!

This one is just okay in my opinion. The narrator tried her best. So so storyline.
