About this listen

Useful wisdom. Simple profound mental models to guide your decisions.

Overwhelmed? If you feel anything less than “hell yeah!” about something, say no. We say yes too often. By saying no to almost everything, you leave space and time in your life to throw yourself completely into the few things that matter most.

After Derek Sivers’ “hell yeah or no” rule was adopted by podcasters, bloggers, and investors, he compiled related ideas into this useful, profound, and surprising book around the themes of what’s worth doing, fixing faulty thinking, and making things happen. Examples:

  • Be proud to be a slow thinker.
  • Goals shape the present, not future.
  • Assume you’re below average.
  • Life has no speed limit.
  • What’s obvious to you is amazing to others.
  • Relax for the same result.

The first 15,000 early buyers of Hell Yeah or No have posted hundreds of 5-star reviews at sive.rs/n—but it is now being released to a wider audience.

This book is a Hell Yeah

I highly recommend this book. It's short, but full of important ideas and wisdom that's been distilled through many years of experience.

I want to re-listen to it as it's densely packed with I think 60 or so great points

Hard Listen

The concept is good. I enjoyed the book, but would have preferred the hard copy edition. I like the short chapters which would have made it an easier read for me. Because of that, the audiobook version is a little much. The instrumentals and the chapter intros got rather annoying pretty quick.

I Love This Guy!

This book turned out to be exactly what I needed. The more I hear from the author, the more I like him. Definitely a recommend ESPECIALLY if you are an artist, struggling with mission/vision/purpose, a teenager, or just someone open to new ideas and wants to live life well.

Thought-provoking

Interesting format, where each chapter is a small digestible idea. Cute little intros for each chapter.

AUDIO BOOK BUYER BEWARE!

AUDIOBOOK BUYER BEWARE!

I LOVE Derek! His clear thinking, lucid writing, and soulful essence. Unfortunately the production of this audiobook is total crap!

What could have been a 21st century audio version of the Tao Te Ching, quickly degraded into an episode of the Muppet Show.

It was a kin to turning in to listen to the peaceful and reassuring prose of Mister Roger’s only to be jarred at by the Gonzo like chapter count and annoyingly placed Animal rimshots at the end. WTF?!?

Bottom line: stick to the book and forgo the audio. Better yet- republish the audio without the racket and this would be solid GOLD!

For now, pass and if you used a credit or purchase this, ask for a refund. I love the message, and the messenger, yet the medium sucks.

Mediocre at best

Short, shallow and a bit condensending. A bunch of random blog posts put together by the author with minimal research or common thread.
Not my cup of tea.
