Acerca de esta escucha

Dan Broderick was one of California's most successful attorneys; his wife, Betty, a beautiful socialite. But when Betty discovered Dan's hidden life, the façade of LaJolla's golden couple was shattered. What followed was a vicious five-year battle that finally ended in a shocking double murder.

A Harvard Law School graduate, Dan manipulated the law to strip Betty of everything she loved: her home, her friends - even her children. When she frantically tried to fight back, he had her committed to a mental hospital. His new wife, Linda, even sent the once-beautiful Betty wrinkle cream ads and weight loss pamphlets.

Consumed by hatred and thoughts of revenge, Betty's rage exploded on the night of November 5, 1989. Before the sun rose the next day, Dan Broderick and his gorgeous new wife were dead - their bullet-riddled bodies wrapped in the blood-soaked sheets of their bed.

I came into reading this book already having knowledge of the case. I've watched a few documentaries and I watched Betty's cross-examination. I find that if you also have knol of the case, the book doesn't really tell you anything new. it does wrap everything up into one package which is nice. I would say this book is a better read if you've never heard of the case or have limited knowledge.

Interesting if you've never heard of the case

This is ok, but if you get a chance to read Until the Twelth of Never by Bella Stumbo, you will get a much more detailed account

Ok, but there is a better account now out of print

Good read, sad to see what some people can be pushed to under a tremendous amount of stress

Very intriguing

The way that this book follows the made for tv movies makes me wonder if the movies were based on this book. And the reader sounds just like the characters in the movie as well as Betty herself in the documentaries.

Very interesting. Very good book.

Truth is Stranger Than Fiction

It was clear that the author favors Betty's side, but I couldn't empathize. Dan wasn't a good person, but his murder wasn't justified, and it felt weird to read the author defending a murder. It's a good story nonetheless, and I'm surprised I didn't know about it.

Interesting book

Since the lifetime movie aired, I have loved Betty Broderick's tale. Dirty John brought the story back into the mainstream with a light that shown on aspects of Betty's the earlier films omitted. Turns out the lifetime movie was based off info given to film makers by Dan's brother. Here, in this book, the veil of bias is lifted and we meet Betty Broderick, perhaps for the first time.

This story is always interesting and I will grab what I can when I find it. Dated somewhat so nothing new.

Good

Betty absolutely deserves every day in jail for her selfish acts.As much energy she put into ruining her ex, she could have put into herself, and became successful in her own right. Dan settled too long, and so did Betts. The red flags were there from the start. Both ignored at end of it all Noone won.
