About this listen

New York Times bestselling author Joan Johnston returns to Texas with a captivating story of justice, secrets, and a love that can heal all wounds. Dedicated Texas Ranger Jack Kittrick is hard on the trail of a killer who is preying on the helpless in a large San Antonio hospital…a hunt that leads him to Maggie Wainwright, the beautiful, enigmatic legal eagle who had access to the victims--and a motive for the crimes. The more Jack learns about Maggie, the more this secretive lady--who makes his spurs tangle and his heart run wild--enthralls and perplexes him. When her own son becomes the killer's target, Maggie can no longer keep silent about her painful, shadowy past. With everything she truly cares about at stake, Maggie must cast her fate to the Texas winds…and trust her future, and her love, to the determined lawman who has more questions for her than she has answers.

I find myself searching for books narrated by Therese Plummer. She makes the stories come to life. This book was fantastic and the story was very good. I hope I can find another Joan Johnston narrated by Therese.

Quite a lot of sexy scenes, that was unexpected. Maybe if you’re into that you won’t mind.

Good read! Narrator was perfet for this book! Even though Julia Gibson is my favorite narrator!

I loved the story line between Maggie and Jack the romance, the anguish, the mystery... However, the narrator was not my favorite. Joan Johnston is absolutely my favorite writer, and I’ve read and/or listened to almost every book she has written... With that said I’d much prefer Joan Johnston to narrate her books than this narrator Therese Plummer.

Great story

Oh my! If you are from Texas, this is a painful listen! Please pronounce our landmarks and towns properly! Can’t even give 1 star for performance but probably not reader’s fault!

Not worth your time!

This book only takes place in a one-week timeframe. The amount of sex and sex talk in this book was ridiculous. I like a good story that does not have to rely on sex scenes to get the readers to keep going. It is like a comedian who can only be funny by being vulgar and cussing. You had the start of a decent story. You did not need the crutch. Believe in your ability to keep us interested with your story.

Therese Plummer does a great job and it was her narration that made me finish the book. The story was unbelievable and not worth a credit.

Wonderful narration ; stupid story

I picked this book because of the narrator. But have learned about 1/3 of the way through it - even an excellent narrator cannot fix a shallow book like this one. It verges on silly.

Love Therese Plummer...but not the author!
