About this listen
Can a monster choose to be good?
That's the question facing Kyra Anastas. With snakes for hair and a gaze that turns men to stone, Kyra is a modern-day Medusa, making a living in Chicago as a hitwoman for hire. Feared and hated even by her fellow Mythic, she lives a solitary and bitter existence until a dying millionaire asks Kyra to protect her daughter from supernatural dangers. Eager to be more than just a dealer of death, Kyra takes the job. But the road to redemption will force Kyra to face all her demons—not just the monsters chasing them across the Windy City, but also the horrors that haunt her own evil past.

Story
From the pulpy pages of Black Mask Magazine in the 1920s and '30s, through the film noir era of the 1940s, to today, noir fiction has lured many a reader and movie-goer away from the light and into the dark underbelly of society. Names such as Raymond Chandler, Dashiell Hammett, and James M. Cain; titles like The Big Sleep, The Maltese Falcon, The Postman Always Rings Twice...these have inhabited our collective consciousness for decades. Humanity, it seems, loves the dark. And within the dark, one figure stands out: that of the femme fatale.

Then Mitchell Cline arrives, with a deadly new way of doing business. His crew of local killers break laws, deal drugs, and bring violence to the doors of the Inn.

Story
My name is Quinn MacKenna, and magic doesn’t work on me. When I’m not getting roped into bar brawls in Boston, I’m usually acquiring - stealing is a form of acquisition, you know - dangerous magical artifacts to turn around and sell them to the highest bidders. But I prefer to be paid in favors, not money. Because favors are a hot commodity in the Land of the Fae. Favors are the only currency that will buy the answers I seek: Why magic doesn’t work on me, and who my real father is.

Story
A child’s wish for her father comes true. The end of the world has never been so much fun. Conquering personal demons becomes all too real. It’s not always about winning; sometimes it’s about showing up for the fight. It’s about loving your life’s work, and jobs that make you question everything. In this anthology, 17 authors have woven together brand-new stories that speak to the darkness and despair that life brings while reminding us that good deeds, humor, love, sacrifice, dedication, and following our joy can ignite a light that burns so bright the darkness cannot last.

With zombie hordes swallowing the earth, mankind had no choice except to launch every nuke on the planet to stop them. Now, 150 years later, we live in over-crowded polluted cities, surrounded by vast radioactive wastelands. And no, we did not get all the zombies. They live among us, sometimes hiding in plain sight. Although the tattoos and piercings help them blend in, and the drugs help to contain their rage, they can never fully control their hunger. It’s endless.

Story
Life was a whole lot easier when the dead stayed dead. I thought I was human. Apparently, I was wrong. I didn't even know there were non-humans. Others, they're called. Fairies, vampires, even the bogeyman - they're all real. At least, that's what the werewolf told me when I saved her from the cops. Did I mention that I saved a werewolf? And those weren't just cops trying to kill her. They're a deadly cult with the sole purpose of capturing and torturing Others...especially me. Because it turns out I'm not just any Other. I can talk to the dead.

Thoroughly Enjoyed this book
I enjoyed this book immensely. The characters were well developed and the story line kept my interest. As a big fan of paranormal books, I especially enjoyed the main character and watching her develop. Not the usual type of character you ever see portrayed in a good light. I look forward to the sequel.

Great book from a first time Author!
I absolutely loved this book. This was an original idea. The main character is a great anti hero hero. I liked the fact he liked to educate you about things in yhe Chicago area. i also loved how she was a wise ass. This will make a great movie. its smart, its action packed! I'm giving this as Christmas gifts this year! Get a copy and read it. Share it!
