I’m a cargo pilot. In the industry, I’m known as a “Freight Dog.” I fly canceled checks and other types of high-value cargo around the country, mostly at night, in airplanes that are older than I am. Flying freight - or “work” as we call it - in small, twin-engine aircraft is a lesser known side of the aviation world. Our day starts when banker’s hours end. Thousands of flights move millions of pounds of work from city to city every night while the rest of the country is asleep.

We’re out there in the freezing rain getting de-iced when you’re laying down for bed. We’re sweeping the snow off our wings with a broom at three in the morning. That horrible thunderstorm you heard last night while you were sleeping, we were flying through it. The fog you woke up to in the early morning hours, we were landing in it.

Hauling Checks is a comedy about the darker side of aviation. A cast of degenerate pilots, who work for a shady night time air cargo operation, take you on a flight through the unfriendly skies. The pilots abuse every Reg in the book in their quest to make deadlines for their high value cargo. As the company falls on hard times, management resorts to questionable measures to save the failing airline.

Funny stories about aviation

Starts a bit slow but picks up nicely. If you are an aviation buff you will enjoy the humor.

it was was entertaining though out the entire listen! greatly recommend to anyone in aviation!

Thoroughly enjoyable listen while walking the dog. Parts of it made me laugh out loud.

Not as great as CFI

I found the CFI book by the same author to be hilarious. This one was OK, but a little too outlandish to be realistic even for a freight dog

The humor!

It’s nice to fly along on Flight Check Airlines 101 and enjoying the poor pilot’s misery as he runs into incompetents, morons, and an evil boss.

Not the "Best book Ever!" but a really good listen. If you're a pilot, there are some freaking hilarious parts to the story.

Great Story

I thought the book was hilarious. i have listened no less than 3 times. i enjoy the way it was satire with little bits of aviation knowledge sprinkled in. This was a great continuation of "CFI the Book". I hope there is another installment coming soon.

Great book!

Very engaging. I cant help but to wonder if this is part of the story of airnet systems, for some time US Check airlines. Good stuff.... makes sense. Flight Express is what we had at my airport years ago, geat memories and chances to ride a long if your a student. Usually in the middle of the night every single night. Craazy Bob I wll never forget he flew a baron and a 310, and he was wild, but very good!
