About this listen

The New York Times best-selling series based on the blockbuster Xbox® games!

While Spartans get all the glory, no soldier - not even the legendary Master Chief - wins a war on his own. Gunnery Sergeant Edward Buck and his team of Orbital Drop Shock Troopers (ODSTs) played a major role in saving the Earth from all-out invasion at the end of the Covenant War - acts of bravery and ingenuity that did not go unnoticed by the United Nations Space Command.

Now, after many Spartans have been killed in battle, and the Master Chief is listed as MIA, the UNSC decides to create a new generation of Spartans to defend humanity from threats both outside and within. When they come to Buck with an extraordinary proposition, he is forced to make a life-altering decision. With the Covenant War finally over, is it time for him finally to retire to the sidelines for a life he could only dream about...or is he prepared to step up and become part of the military's new blood?

Great bridge between Halo ODST and Halo 5

Explains how Buck joined the Spartans in Halo 5. Jumps around a bit much but gives just enough plot in each arc to keep things interesting.

I could only improve on it by adding sound effects and background music a La the Star Wars Audiobooks.

A Great Tale from Start to Finish

Humorous, action packed and suspenseful, this novel is a great addition to the Halo series. As a long time Halo novel reader and original Halo: Combat Evolved veteran, i have to say that this was as much fun to listen to as playing the games.

Romeo is my favorite character by far, his sarcastic nature and foolhardiness speaks to me and what i think a Spartan, even a Spartan4, should be.

Although, no one does, or ever will for that matter, compare to the amazingness that is Jon-Spartan-117

The halo series has yet to disappoint me

And i'm not easy to impress
But this series has continued to be a great investment time and again...
This book in particular follows ODST- the hell jumpers, and even does some detail from the Halo: ODST game. Loved the refresher, and extra perspective.
A quick read, but overly satisfying...

Where's Nathan Fillion?

This was good book that would have been made much better with Nathan Fillion narrating (since he is the voice of Buck).

tempered expectations

I wanna preface with say that the narrator did a good job. unfortunately he's not Nathan Fillion. the writing definitely has his characteristics but do not expect a fillion performance. I went in with expectations tempered and found it an entertaining story.

Eddie Buck ftw.

I might be a little biased but anything to do with Alpha 9 and Eddie Buck is beyond worth my time. This is a great story, and the way it is written/told fits what you'd expect his demeanor would be. Almost like having a beer with the man. Thank you for the entertainment.

Gets better as it goes.

I honestly wasn't incredibly impressed at first. The way it jumps around is a little annoying but the ending more than makes up for it. My favorite thing about halo is how it puts all the characters into perspective and makes them believable and understandable. This story does that in spades for Buck.

Amazing narration! great story!

Loved the book, it was nice and somewhat heart wrenching to know what happened to I would assume fan favorite Rookie from Halo 3: ODST.

Love This Book

This book was fantastic. It was great to listen too. Halo is pretty good story even when it’s not about the Master Chief.
