About this listen

The boy who couldn’t love and the girl who wouldn’t.

Ginny Murphy is a total guy’s girl. She’s always found friendships with boys easier to form and keep drama-free–as long as they don’t fall for her, and she doesn’t fall for them. She and her best guy friends have stuck to that. But then she meets Adrian Silvas, the only one who’s ever made her crave more, and Ginny begins to question her own rules.

Piece by piece, Ginny and Adrian begin to fall into something intoxicating, something dangerous. Ginny threatens to destroy the belief Adrian's held ever since witnessing his own mother’s heartbreak: that love isn’t worth the risk. For Ginny, the stakes could be even higher. Letting Adrian get close could mean exposing a secret she’s long protected: her disordered eating.

Ginny isn’t looking to be saved by someone. But maybe she and Adrian can help each other–if they don’t destroy each other first.

Heartfelt and evocative, Guy's Girl is a powerful story about true love, self-love, and growing up.

ALL THE FEELS

I just love how Emma takes these things that are hard to discuss and make them into beautiful stories. This one is a tearjerker, especially when the talented Lori Prince is narrating.

Cute

I was shocked of how this book ended because I didn’t know if it would’ve ended on a good note but, they got together in the end.

A Beautiful Insight into Eating Disorders

***Trigger Warning*** This book takes a deep dive into the practical physiological aspects of eating disorders (ED) and how they might play out. The self-loathing, the explaining away of symptoms & lack of self awareness with the progression of how bad symptoms can get was well thought & well constructed.
Ginny’s ED was contrasted against a supportive friend & family circle & with her “success” (Harvard, NYC, thinness) and sends a message that even when everything on the outside looks great, the anxiety and negative self/talk happening internally can still be overwhelming. The interwoven love story was so powerful as both characters had to process through past trauma and endure a lot of character development.
The emotion in the Narrator’s voice was awesome (her laughter; her depth of emotion— was perfect).
My only criticism: I know the author was driving a point home— but the details about all of the vomit in Ginny’s bulimic phase could have been omitted. I was literally gagging at some points and def lost my appetite for the entirety of this book. And the volume controls / setting of the book from whispering to shouting had me constantly adjusting the volume on my phone/headphones & gave me a few jump-scares. Hahaha. Maybe this can be adjusted in the editing?
Anyway, can’t wait to explore other titles from this author! Highly recommend.

Heartbreakingly beautiful

The narration was perfection. This is the kind of book where you feel everything the characters are feeling.
