About this listen

Go West, Prof. Croft!

When my magical order assigns me to Grimstone, Colorado, on a case, I’m in no hurry to pack my staff and spell books. The outlaw county is a far cry from my academic calling in New York City. And I’m being paired with junior wizard James Wesson. A brash hustler and wannabe cowboy, he’s exactly why I prefer working alone.

But something sinister is snatching women on the full moon. The local werewolf gang? The 600-pound witch who runs the brothel? Or does the perp come from the mortal ranks of a population as strange as any supernatural I’ve encountered?

The only certainty is the lunar cycle, set to wax full in 24 hours - meaning we need to get cracking.

Can the wizard duo of Croft and Wesson blow open the case in time to save the next victim? Or will our odd-couple act spell doom for Grimstone?

Croft & Wesson is a spinoff of the popular Prof Croft series but stands on its own. If you like buddy wizards, occult mysteries, and wild spell-slinging in one of the Wilder Wests around, you’ll love Croft & Wesson!

Too much fun!

urban-fantasy, supernatural, snarky, paranormal, mage, witches, werewolves, weird-western, action*****

Prof Croft leaves his students and everything back in NYC and is ordered to go to Colorado to mentor a young practitioner. There he encounters werewolves, a crazy witch, an unusual sheriff, and something that is abducting natural blondes once a month. The laughs are nonstop! I love Prof Croft!
It's soooo much better with James Patrick Cronin giving the audio performance, and besides, I can listen to it in the car and drive passengers nutz!

I actually prefer this spinoff

I purchased the book 0-4 collection of the original Prof. Croft series and found it merely okay.
This spinoff works better for me. Instead of getting bogged down in conspiracies, wizard politics, and Armageddon plots that play out over multiple books, these nuggets get right to the action and focus on a self contained magical mystery procedural.

At least in these first two novellas, the tired trope of the lone white wizard sparring with the lone lady cop is replaced by a buddy buddy, Wild West show. It’s still a bit rough around the edges, but listening just for the pulpy fun of it, these’ll do for quick matinee listens.
