About this listen

When widow Frances Lacey was murdered in July 1960 on Mackinac Island, only a few meager clues were found by police, and the case soon turned cold. But more than sixty years later, will those same clues finally solve the mystery?

On July 24, 1960, the quaint charm and serenity of Mackinac, nestled between Michigan's Upper and Lower Peninsulas, was shattered by Lacey's brutal death. Despite a massive manhunt and thousands of pages of police reports, her killer was never caught.

Now, in Grim Paradise, true crime author Rod Sadler (Killing Women) delves into the secrets of one of Michigan's most perplexing murder cases. Offering an in-depth and suspenseful account of the long-standing mystery, he poses the question:

Could advanced DNA technology lead to the identity of the Mackinac Island murderer as it did recently in the case of the Golden State Killer?

A true "whodunit"

Having read all four of Mr. Sadler's books, which consist of To Hell I Must Go, A Slayer Waits, and Killing Women, this is by far his best work. From the beginning, the way Mr. Sadler catches your attention with the minute details of Mrs. Lacey's last days is not only intriguing, but very much brings to life the feel of having known Mrs. Lacey before she was brutally murdered, What follows is an incredible amount of detail regarding lead, after lead, after lead into who may have killed Mrs. Lacey. Every chapter brings a new twist on possible suspects and leaves the reader wondering, "Maybe if this is the one." "What if..."
Almost to the point of concluding, "Well, of course it was him." It is obvious Mr. Sadler is not only passionate about his subject matter, but he exudes a distinct commitment to research and accuracy. Mr. Sadler leaves you with not one, but two lingering questions: Is the killer still alive? Does the evidence still exist? I highly suggest you read the book and come to your own conclusion.

Good

Enjoyable calm easy voice but no breaks for subject changes makes it very confusing at times. Story interesting but not gripping. A nice way to pass some time.
