About this listen

The world as we knew it is gone. Food and water are poison. Learn the new rules or die trying.

Eli "Nacho" Naches is a fearsome assassin who has lost everything in a post-apocalyptic world full of monstrous creatures. He knows where he fits in this horror show, and he’s only been hanging around to see what’s going to be thrown at him next. When he’s finally put in chains and sent to the chopping block, he goes readily...only to be unexpectedly sent back in time to his younger body with his memories intact and the chance to make a difference.

But Nacho isn’t interested in saving the world. He just needs to save the people who matter to him and give them a chance to survive in a world where everything but the air itself is poison. Knowing that all their lives are on the line, Nacho the battle-scarred killer needs to get his college-age friends to listen to him, plan their builds, and secure a safe location to bunker down. Obviously, each of those goals is an epic quest all on its own.

a little slow on the intro but aside from that the puns were great I'm surprised there wasn't a pungent but overall Kick-Ass story

Something fun and new

The main characters are well rounded. None are super perfect people. It’s nice to see a hero who has to actually practice and learn and isn’t instantly the best ever. I am looking forward to the next book - I am quite interested to know what happens next.

Better than I thought it would be

Another fantastic litrpg from the studio I went in to it not expecting much but was proven wrong. I have already purchased the second one and plan on buying the third If the story arch continues to be this good.

Different and awesome

I really enjoyed the book. Good character and character progression. Had a nice pace to the story and a nice start to the magic systems and rules. Highly recommend giving it a try!

Great characters

I enjoyed the book immensely. A lot more dark than some of Krouts other books (the cannibalism got to me) but over all the characters were varied and the problems they had to deal with were interesting and realistic. Food truly is the most important.

A Dakota twist on some classic tropes

Most of Dakota’s books I find to be more unique and surprising, but I find the first book to this series to be more of his take on old-school lit-rpg tropes. It lays a solid foundation for the series, but I feel like book 2 will be leagues better and I’m looking forward to it.
