About this listen
From New York Times best-selling author of Adulting: How to Become a Grown-up in 468 Easy(ish) Steps comes a funny, charming guide to modern civility in these - yes, we'll say it - rather uncivil times.
Graciousness is practicing the arts of kindness, thoughtfulness, good manners, humanity, and basic decency. As a bonus, it makes your life and even the world (or at least the room you're in) much lovelier.
It's not about memorizing every rule of traditional etiquette to a T (though there is so much there to explore!) or spending all your time maintaining a spotless house. It's about approaching the world with compassion, conviction, self-confidence, and wholeheartedness, whether you're at the Met Gala or saying good morning to a convenience store clerk.
From chatting easily with anyone to mastering the subtleties of social media etiquette (hint: block early, block often), Brown has talked to gracious women and men all over the country to give you easy ways to embody your own graciousness.
Throughout the book, she provides tips on how to deal with the people and circumstances that challenge even the most socially graceful among us, advice on how to practice graciousness in everyday life, and thoughtful discussions on being kind to those around you without ever losing your sense of self.
With the wisdom of gracious folk ranging from celebrities to the author's mother-in-law, this book explains the perspective, actions - and, sometimes, inaction - that help us move smoothly and effectively through whatever life tosses at us.

Kelly Williams Brown had 700 bad days. Her marriage collapsed, she broke three limbs in separate and unrelated incidents, her father was diagnosed with cancer, and she fell into a deep depression that ended in what could delicately be referred to as a “rest cure” at an inpatient facility. Before that, she had several very good years: She wrote a best-selling book, spoke at NASA, had a beautiful wedding, and inspired hundreds of thousands of readers to live as grown-ups in an often-screwed-up world, though these accomplishments mostly just made her feel fraudulent.

If you graduated from college but still feel like a student...if you wear a business suit to job interviews but pajamas to the grocery store...if you have your own apartment but no idea how to cook or clean...it's OK. But it doesn't have to be this way. Just because you don't feel like an adult doesn't mean you can't act like one. And it all begins with this funny, wise, and useful book. Based on Kelly Williams Brown's popular blog, Adulting makes the scary, confusing "real world" approachable, manageable - and even conquerable.

For the last several years, Penn and Kim Holderness of The Holderness Family have done the hard maintenance and the research to learn how to fight better. With the help of their marriage coach Dr. Christopher Edmonston, they break down their biggest (and in some cases, funniest) fights. How did a question about chicken wings turn into a bra fight (no, not a bar fight; a bra fight)? How did a roll of toilet paper lead to tears, resentment, and a stint in the guest bedroom?

But Daum also operates in a comic register. With perfect precision, she reveals the absurdities of the marriage-industrial complex, of the New Age dating market, and of the peculiar habits of the young and digital.

Story
Throw Out Fifty Things is truly an eye-opener. According to Blanke, our lives are so filled with junk from the past—from dried up tubes of crazy glue to old grudges—that's it's a wonder we can get up in the morning, never mind go to work, care for our children and parents, and just put one foot in front of the other. Blanke wants to start a movement of people across America throwing out 50 things (magazines count as one!) that will help liberate us from the stuff—both physical and mental—that clutters our lives.

Story
At some point in nearly every marriage, a wife finds herself asking, "What is wrong with my husband?!" In David Finch's case, this turns out to be an apt question. Five years after he married Kristen, the love of his life, they learn that he has Asperger syndrome. The diagnosis explains David's ever-growing list of quirks and compulsions, his lifelong propensity to quack and otherwise melt down in social exchanges, and his clinical-strength inflexibility. But it doesn't make him any easier to live with.

Story
What could possibly be “lucky” about addiction? Absolutely nothing, thought Laura McKowen when drinking brought her to her knees. As she puts it, she “kicked and screamed . . . wishing for something - anything - else” to be her issue. The people who got to drink normally, she thought, were so damn lucky. But in the midst of early sobriety, when no longer able to anesthetize her pain and anxiety, she realized that she was actually the lucky one. Lucky to feel her feelings, live honestly, really be with her daughter, change her legacy.

If every therapist and psychotherapist on the planet could repeat this to their clients, like a mantra, again and again, there would be fewer therapists and psychotherapists. Because it works. Very quickly. Realising that what you're worrying about and stressing over doesn't really matter so much in the grand scheme of things is the door to freedom and healing. And the little profanity 'F**k It' is the key to that door.

Based on her popular Modern Love column, Sara Eckel’s It’s Not You challenges these myths, encouraging singletons to stop picking apart their personalities and to start tapping into their own wisdom about who and what is right for them. Supported by the latest psychological and sociological research, as well as interviews with people who have experienced longtime singledom, Eckel creates a strong and empowering argument to understand and accept that there’s no one reason why you’re single - you just are.

Graciousness is Bigger than I Thought
Loved all of it! Already started to listen again. Kelly presents a holistic concept for living with a very, funny, light hearted way. Lots of great suggestions on how to live a happier life and be good to myself and everyone I come in contact with. I've already start to change my mind and practice graciousness in every interaction. Her suggestions give me confidence to go into the scariest situations. Thank you for this book! : )

Good and funny read presented delightfully.
I really enjoyed this she did her homework. I laughed, I cried, I wrote a thank you note.
Her small and great insights into common decency are definitely doable acts and she has a way of delivering this in a manner resembling a close friend.

Beautiful cover design
Tremendous first effort. This would have worked better as a memoir. I struggled with some of the advice, attempts at high grammar, and narration.

Approachable, current, and fun!
I loved every tip and trick in this book and how the information was conveyed through woman she has interviewed versus through her own personal experience which is what makes this book so approachable I think. It's the perfect blend of things you could have learned from your great grandma and advice your best friend would give you. I found the tips on negotiations particularly helpful and have already put them into practice successfully. I already feel more confident in conversations with new people and when I'm consistently practicing the techniques in the book, I actually feel more joyful with my life over all. I finished this book, and immediately started it over again because I want to be sure I don't miss a thing!
Note: The narration is perfect, so perfect that I don't mind putting this book on repeat and listening to her voice for another 7 hours.

Wow! Don't miss it!
I liked this so much, I bought the hard copy, Kindle and emailed friends to listen/read. It's that good. Has sensible and practical advice for the many situations of life. I listened straight through. Ordinarily I genuinely dislike narrators who add all sort of emphasis and pauses and end sentences with a question mark when the author wrote a period. However, the author narrated, so she has the authority to do this. No matter your gender or age, listen to this book. If you have a few irritating situations in your life, or you need to tighten up your life in some parameter, listen to this book. Zero preachy or religious, just plain useful information for handling life with a modicum of dignity and ease.
