One of the many important points that Dr. Hawkins stresses in this lecture is that in order to follow his Pathway of Devotional Non-Duality, your devotion to Truth has to be greater than the devotion to the payoff of being right. When this prevails, one is well on the way to Enlightenment. What keeps the ego in place? It is the pleasure it gets from its positionalities. The willingness to surrender the gratification and pleasure of the payoff of the ego's positions is the sacrifice. Dr. Hawkins also informs us that spiritual work is a lot easier that we think!

He explains that we can transcend the ego and reach the higher states of consciousness not by battling it, spending 30 years in psychotherapy or meditating forever, but by understanding its origin, its nature and its function. The ego then begins to dissolve on its own through compassion and acceptance because when you shine light on darkness, the darkness begins to disappear.

In this awe-inspiring lecture, Dr. Hawkins reveals that peace can't really be accomplished in the world, that it is an inner state. Peace and freedom are what you are and when you let go of trying to control things and give God advice, it puts you into a space where it's irrelevant. Dr. Hawkins explains that the intellect is really our problem, as it is very fast and takes credit for what happens and presumes to be the causal effect. If we can get beyond thinking in terms of a "this" causing a "that", then you don't need to make up a false explanation of why things happen.

Any additional comments?
As this was a book signing it brought different questions than at a lecture. Upon first listen I must confess I get little immediate value from the Q&A as a whole but every now an again one will be so useful. From listening to the bulk of his lectures I wish questioners would heed his request--make the question succinct! They rarely do and go on and on about things which are tiresome to listen to. I wish them the very best as well. However because this one was so filled with teary, weepy stories I think it emphasizes the powerful karma yoga or maybe kindness in a spiritual being being present to others without expectation. Hawkins always models some behavior I admire. :)My favorite Q&A is when Hawkins kindly but firmly explains narcissism to a man and them emphatically states that the discussion is over when the questioner starts trying to refute it. Beautiful. Hawkins clearly and kindly stated that no one else would tell this questioner this truth. Thanks goodness for those like Hawkins who affirm speaking the truth even when and perhaps most especially when it is not popular.
