I love the development of the marriages and the picture of Irish life.
I will read everything he writes and those of Claire as well.

Beautifully written and read. Magical and totally realistic portrait of life and longing. It was like reading a poem.

Loved NW’s melodic Irish narration. Brought the book alive. His mastery of language unbeatable, beautiful. It was hard to let it go.

It’s always special to listen to the author read their work and this is no exception. As with all Niall Williams’ stories, you need only sit back and let it unfold. And this one does, in ways that surprise and delight. And, if you read this, Mr. Williams, please know I am grateful for your afterword.

Best love letters ever

The metaphors in the first part of the book put me off...they seemed odd. But by Part 4, the descriptives had become original and magnificent. An absolutely engrossing and lovely read/listen.

Probably best if Read not Listened to

I love Niall and This Is Happiness and Time of the Child are my very favorites!!
I read them and cherished every single word.
I listened to this book on Audible and my
mind tended to wander. It wasn’t till about half way through that I realized I was very confused. I was thinking that Nicholas and Sean were the same person and I was very confused cause it didn’t match up so I had to do some investigative research and find out there’s two different families here. Obviously this is your mind wandering and you doing other things while you listen to an audiobook. Once I got that straight, it was much better. Although I didn’t love this book as much as his two others, this is more melancholy and more of a romance without as much humor. That being said it is still a very good book. And I would love to see the movie if there is a movie.

Profoundly Beautiful

4th Niall Williams book. Incredibly unique and poetic storytelling. Mystical deep plot - began slowly and intensified. The author is a decent narrator - much prefer the narrator who read This is Happiness. Absolutely rare and spiritual writing imho. Cheers to Niall Williams. Every book has been beyond excellent!:
