About this listen

What happens when the glass slippers pinch Cinderella's toes? When Jaine Andersen proposes a new marketing role to the local amusement park, general manager Dylan Callahan charms her into filling Cinderella's glass slippers for the summer. Her reign transforms Jaine's ordinary life into chaos that would bewilder a fairy godmother. Secretly dating her bad boy boss, running wedding errands for her ungrateful sisters, and defending herself from the park's resident villain means Jaine needs lots more than a comfy pair of shoes to restore order in her kingdom. First in the Storybook Valley series, a blend of sweet romance, chick lit, and fairy tale fun.

Fairly Tale Ending

I was gifted this audio ARC from the author for a honest and unbiased review
I LOVED this book. It was so sweet and actually touching.
Stacy Juba is one of my new favorites as is Karen Commins. Both did a really great job.
I found this book to be entertaining with an unusual storyline. The story is set in an amusement park where the main character ends up dressing up as Cinderella to help out the new boss and provide extra hours before they can hire her full time. I imagine that one does not think of Cinderella and playing one in a theme park as a means to ideal marketing job.

Perfect Summer Escape!

Any additional comments?

Fooling Around with Cinderella is the perfect beach read that includes several laugh out loud moments. It is a great first book in the new Storybook Valley series by Stacy Juba. Having worked at Cedar Point in Sandusky, Ohio over the summers during my college years, I could easily relate to the setting of an amusement park and the pecking order of "the talent."

The story centers around recent college graduate Jaine Andersen who proposes a new marketing position to the local theme park, Storybook Valley, in part, because the park no longer attracts the crowds it once did when Jaine was a little girl. The general manager of the park, Dylan Callahan, sweet talks Jaine into playing the part of Cinderella for meet and greets with the youngsters, along with hiring her part time as the marketing department. Needless to say, Jaine falls for her boss and shenanigans ensue when an old girlfriend (who also works at the park) starts to sabotage all of Jaine's good efforts.

I listened to the Audible version of this story narrated by Karen Commins who did a wonderful job. I was totally engrossed and imagined that I was listening to Jaine's thoughts and snarky comments, rather than listening to a reader's narration of a book. In short, Fooling Around with Cinderella is the perfect summer escape!

Fun & Unique Cinderella Tale

The author did an excellent job creating a unique and fun Cinderella inspired story. The story is set in an amusement park where the main character ends up dressing up as Cinderella to help out the new boss and provide extra hours before they can hire her full time.

The narrator did a fairly good job bringing the story to life. It was a fun lighthearted story with a HEA conclusion.

Her sisters were awful. I did not care for how they treated Jaine. I did like Dylan's personality, although, he did make me mad by jumping to conclusions. Dylan's Grandfather was great. I really liked him.

I'm looking forward to reading more books by this author.

Loved the story and the Grandfather

I got this book via audiobook boom. The narrator was perfect for the book. She brought each character to life. Those twin sisters of Jaine were portrayed wonderfully. You could feel how they were taking advantage of Jaine. but I loved the instances when she stood up to them also. The story centers around Dylan getting his family's theme park back to being popular and how he falls for Jaine and Jaine who lost her marketing job due to downsizing helping him do this. They fall in love along the way. this is a sweet romance that held my attention. I would recommend this version of the Cinderella story. Little Red Riding hood was hilarious and Dylan's Mom was just too bossy for words.

Sweet look at a princess

Fooling around with Cinderella by Stacy Juba is a delightful story featuring Jaine Andersen and her adventure working for Storybook Valley Amusement Park, which is run by the gorgeous Dylan Callahan, the grandson of the couple who started the park. In need of a job, Jaine sends her resume and a letter pitching her ability to raise the attendance numbers to the fairy tale themed park, which has kept its magic through the years but lost its attendance numbers. She charms Dylan into hiring her, but there is a catch. The park is in need of someone to play Cinderella that summer, so because the park can’t afford to hire her on full-time during the summer, Jaine gets stuck having to put on heavy make-up, a fancy taffeta dress, and a golden wig to be Cinderella for little children every day.

Jaine’s life in itself is not very interesting, but it is indeed very busy. She ends up getting stuck with doing all the organizing for one sister’s wedding, bridal shower, and bachelorette party and taking over much of the childcare issues for her other sister. Her entire interest in Storybook Valley has arisen from having taken her 8-year-old niece to the park on a visit. But life at Storybook Valley is a big adventure, from dealing with the handsome boss to developing new marketing ideas.

This charming book gives us a glimpse of life as Cinderella in a theme park and what getting to be Cinderella can mean for a woman, both inside and outside of the costume. It makes us think about what it takes to be ourselves and support each other.

The audio version of this book is narrated by Karen Commins, whose reading makes this fun book even more enjoyable. She adds a touch of twinkle to this book and adds to the sense of fun between Jaine and Dylan.

Fooling around with Cinderella shows pieces of the romance of the fairy tale world as well as the challenges of living in the real world. A sweet romance, this book is highly suitable for all. I give it five stars!
