About this listen

When Flinx, no stranger to galactic intrigue, found an unconscious woman on a riverbank deep in the jungles of Alaspin, he took it in stride. When he learned that the woman, Clarity Held, was a brilliant scientist abducted from a remote outpost on inhospitable Longtunnel by a group of fanatic assassins, he tried to help the beautiful Clarity back to her project. Unfortunately, the assassins were still at work. They would do anything to stop the research on Longtunnel and would kill anyone or anything that got in their way.

Flinx in Love

By now Flinx has become self sufficent and a loner, but in this installment in the series he learns how to love and allows himself to be loved. The long-tunnel pieces remind me about Fosters "Sentenced to Prism" in many ways. This is the book where Flinx gets his great challenge that will trouble him throughout the rest of the series. Fun Read

Flinx and Pip are always entertaining

Where does Flinx in Flux rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Middling, but due to the difference of listening to a favorite story as opposed to re-reading it. It wasn't a good transition for me.

What about Stefan Rudnicki’s performance did you like?

He did a good job with Flinx's moments of philosophy and kept it from being melodramatic. He did especially well with the somewhat crazy evil lady and the eco-terrorists.

Any additional comments?

I have been reading Flinx stories forever, it seems, and I have enjoyed Flinx's maturation and the eventual resolution of his story. Flinx in Flux is a pivotal step in Flinx's life, so I recommend this to anyone who wasn't sure if they want to continue the saga. I especially like the aliens presented in this particular story, and the set up of "frontier" worlds. If you read the entire set of Flinx stories, it's obvious these were written over a long time and there are some loose ends that never get tied up, but that's a minor drawback because Alan Dean Foster is a great storyteller. He is also a great SF author. I love exploring new worlds with him. However, he has a tendency to pontificate, and it seems he especially likes Flinx to pontificate. I always enjoy this the first time or two that I read the passages, but I found listening to them a bit annoying. I just have to learn how to fast forward, I guess. This is the only reason I will hesitate to listen to one of his stories again.

best read & re-read & listen ever! !!

I never tire of this series. it has everything but more than in any other series, the characters are real, not cliches and full of surprises. I am so glad this is a complete series since I can't seem to read/listen to just one . once started I have to go through all .

A hard truth...

My childhood was brightened immensely by this pulp-slinging writer, so I hate to bring this bad news, but our dear Mr. Foster cannot handle relationship/love/interpersonal thought and dialogue. I love him when he's bringing on the action amid his soft science backdrops, but when the goal is to advance his character from point A to point B in the romance sector--which this book set out to do, he gives the impression that he's been happily in an arranged marriage since he was 18 years old. Awkward, shallow, and I'm really sorry to say: dull. Pip in a dark cave with a hot, sympathetic and intelligent babe should really be a recipe for some long awaited letting-go. ALSO...making it up as you go along is okay (especially for a writer) as long as it doesn't SEEM like that's what you're doing.
