Acerca de esta escucha

With the Slosth and Devil Incursions taken care of, Drew Wright should be settling down for some well-deserved rest. But… the world is still in shambles, survivors are fighting over limited resources, and he no longer has access to magical, gun-wielding minions.

So, rest will have to wait.

Drew needs to find a new way to control hordes of undead minions without his brain leaking out through his ears. Becoming an undead Lich is certainly an option, but that involves losing certain… assets that he’d rather hold on to, especially with him and Amber considering the option of having children. Which is nearly as daunting as the apocalypse itself.

To further complicate Drew’s life, the gods of the multiverse have finally come to Earth, making deals and offering great strength to those who bend the knee. Meanwhile, other powerful figures are emerging, ones that Drew will not be able to face alone.

When a new threat arises, one that seeks the extinction of the human race, Drew is forced to set aside his morals to focus on what really matters…

Survival.

I feel like it might be growing pains but the MC has become very immature in some of his actions and thinking which feels like a regression from the last book and the 10 years he spent growing as a person and a necromancer. Still love the story I'm just hoping it won't be a continuous issue and we can mature.

I love the story, however...

Large scale conflict well written and designed while still maintaining morality, ethics, and mental health discussions for the characters undergoing the conflict.
Great combat, tactics and grand strategy implemented as well as human interaction city management.
A complex book that kept me thinking and where to see what the characters do next.
What choices will Drew make and what will the consequences be?
It’s just the fate of the world and humanity at stake!

Coldfang89 delivers another darkly hilarious and action-packed book in the First Necromancer series, Book Three, and Christian J. Gilliland’s narration brings Drew Wright’s snark and struggles to life perfectly. The stakes are higher than ever as Drew weighs becoming a Lich, starting a family, and surviving gods invading Earth—all while trying not to lose his mind (or his manhood). If you like clever undead chaos with heart, this one’s a must-listen.

Another darkly hilarious and action-packed book!

This book has a lot of philosophical questions of right and wrong. What would you do if everything was at stake? How far would you go for you and your family to survive?

Most of the book was set up for the main battle. Part I is in this book, part II in the next.

Excellent narration!

Morality

I like the story though I am a bit disappointed with the developments in some ways. You've turned an intelligent and driven MC into a whiny baby who throws fits that Reyna Lear won't solve all his problems despite him getting absurd OP levels of help from her. He has an absurd amount of qualms using his own undead, and is afraid of his own spells. I like the series but good lord please pull back on the mambo pamby MC angle.

Good but you made MC into a whiny baby

Overall I would give this book 4.5 stars. It’s a fun litrpg listen. This book has less emphasis on combat and settlement building the previous books in the series. Instead it’s heavier on characters development, moral choices, and diplomatic relationships.

***Potential Vague Spoilers***

The main character struggles with how his power shapes his interactions with others. A lot of the book explores how much he can and should force his will on others and how much a bad situation can justify it, or it just being abuse of power. All this occurs while a new threat looms that acts as a twisted reflection of the main character. Both the main character and primary antagonist of the book perform similar actions, but for different reasons and justifications. Multiple times during this book I was reminded of the quote, “He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster.”

Moral Dilemmas and Diplomacy

Good story and plot line. Just had to stick up for my hometown Houston. Houston is the best city in Texas (and more) and didn’t deserve the vitriol it got in the book (none of this has anything to do with the story, other than going to Houston, so no spoilers).

Also have to give props for all the references to other LitRPG series, I wonder how many I missed.

Whats with the HTown hate?!?

Fun and addicting. I hope a new book comes out soon with the clifhanger ending :)

my only real complaint is the narration is way too quiet I'd rather adjust my volume down to get a proper level then try so hard to listen with earbuds

loved, but

So I did really enjoy the book even with how slow it was at times.

My only real annoyance was the MC's constant warring morality. Not that it was happening but just that he'd constantly go over it for a chapter or two multiple times.

With the same talking points. I can see what the author is going with I think, and I'm not exactly sure I agree if the outcome. Not my story though.

Regardless its still a fun book, I just wish this situation got wrapped up in this book. I must admit I really don't care for large scale battle stuff and having this carrying over to the next one is kinda annoying. Not that I won't get the next one.

Good story with some slight annoyance
