About this listen

When a scientist at the world’s top AI company is murdered, a covert CIA operative must recruit a former love interest to help uncover the killer.

Nations and corporations alike are racing to dominate the world’s artificial intelligence industry...by whatever means necessary.

With its genius CEO and breakthrough technology, the Silicon Valley-based Pax AI Corporation is one of the hottest companies in the sector. But when one of Pax AI’s top scientists is murdered at a prestigious tech conference, company executives and foreign spies are all on the suspect list.

In the aftermath of the killing, CIA officer Colt McShane has been assigned to a joint counterintelligence unit based in San Francisco. The unit’s leadership believes that an international espionage ring has been stealing classified technology from Pax AI.

Now they want Colt to use his past relationship with Pax AI executive Ava Klein to penetrate the company’s inner circle, and uncover the mole. But as Colt learns more about Pax AI’s classified programs, he discovers just how powerful - and dangerous - their new technology can be. As the struggle for AI dominance grows ever more competitive, the factions vying for power are becoming desperate to achieve victory.

In the fight for absolute power, there can be only one winner. Everyone involved has their own spies and secrets.

Whose spy will win? And what secrets will they reveal?

poor narration, not a convincing voice

weak performance overall. At times a dull reading lacking sufficient drama and mood of the characters. Watered down story telling.

Pretty good premise

I enjoyed the story. The concept of AI having the power to take over the world isn't a new premise, but this worked well for me. There are plenty of plot twists and turns and enough parallels to the world we live in to make you think.

It gets you thinking

The narration was 'okay' - some of the voices didn't match the character. The book makes you think but there were many parts of the story that seemed more sci-fi than reality.

It seemed to drag on in a few areas but it was a good listen.

Suspense, espionage, romance and scifi in the mix

A fast listen with suspense, espionage, romance and scifi in the mix. I guess the narrator and the author belong together. A Worthy spent.

What could have been but wasn’t

darted of and on with poor character development and a flawed main character . Plot was not believable and too many wrong turns. Ending was so bad. And the book used the gem as le charter poorly.

Michael Wolff, which is excellent.

'Firewall Spies' by Andrew Watts is a new series that, in my opinion, got off to a great start. The first book in the series, 'Firewall,' was not what I expected. As an IT guy, the word firewall has significant meaning when it comes to computer security. In this book, it means a lot more. The author expertly developed the main characters in a way that slowly led me into an unexpected scenario. The author does this with a little romance, a career change, suspicious characters, espionage, and a chance to save the world! How can you not finish a book like this? There is an audible book performed by Michael Wolff, which is excellent. I recommend both of these if reading in the middle of a business meeting or driving is frowned upon where you live. Now, for the next book, Agent of Influence. -Mr.Bill

Good not great

The story was cool. Didn’t hold my interest like some of my other favs. But not a waste of my time either.

Held my attention despite narration

The surfer guy narrator was awful and distracting. Otherwise, the plot held my attention. I didn’t like the hanger ending setting up a super villain. If you want this to be realistic it can’t be James Bond.

I also didn’t like that Colt and Ava didn’t reconnect before the conclusion.
