About this listen

One woman on a mission. Four cursed men. A primal magic that threatens to destroy them all....

Sophie has done her best to avoid the magical world for fear of the havoc her abnormal ability wreaks on other supernaturals. As a silencer who mutes the powers of those around her, she's spent her life among the mortals her defect can't harm.

But when Mother Nature pushes her from her home to do her bidding, Sophie has no choice but to venture to the magical town of Twin Rivers.

Instead of viewing her presence as a curse, four men see Sophie's arrival as a blessing. Carrigan, a psychic who hears everyone's thoughts at all times. Hagan, a bear shifter who transforms at the slightest provocation. Jonas, whose losses have left him isolated and jaded. And Valor, a vampire without conscience or remorse.

Drawn to Sophie, these irresistible men find themselves caught up in a dangerous whirlwind of magic that runs deeper than they can imagine. But Sophie can't allow her mounting attraction to keep her from her mission - because Mother's wrath destroys everything it touches.

Contains mature themes.

Refreshing Take

I’ve been obsessed with fated mates for some time along with the typical insta love. This story was done with a twist in that the mfc is following some type of internal urges she believes is Mother Nature. She could also have dissociative identity disorder which would also fit the storyline. Along the way she makes connections and some of them seem really weird. Just when I was starting to believe there is a purpose to the chaos, the book ended. And it was seriously abrupt. Overall I can’t stand characters with southern accents and colloquialisms- I’d rather the narrators didn’t attempt it. Also the male narrator didn’t do well with differentiating between the male characters. I’m really hoping reading book 2 won’t be a mistake.

Has Potential

I enjoyed the premise of the story, with the MFC being "pushed" to fulfill a quest by the magical entity which she refers to as Mother, and how she picks up some misfit characters along the way. And I actually really liked these characters more than the MFC, with each having their own personality type: Carrigan the charming "boy next door", Hagan the overprotective and possessive shifter, Jonas the a-hole grump that just wants those he cares about to be happy and will move mountains to make it happen, and Valor the tortured soul bad boy vampire. But I didn't particularly like how the bonds between all the characters started to develop. I was hoping for more of a natural development of feelings for each other, but instead it is very instalove with a strong dash of codependence. I'm really hoping the next book picks up more on the storyline itself and that there will be more character development where I can overlook some of the areas that seem to grate on me.

Decent Storyline, Terrible Narration

The steamy storyline is enough to keep my interest, but the narration grates my nerves. It definitely took me a minute to get used to the female character's perky "southern accent" but I got over it. The male narrator is just plain bad. His tone is a cross between "Bro" and "Cali frat boy"... it doesn't fit the male characters at all and takes away from the story.

Great listen!

After a string of audiobooks I could barely get through this was exactly what I needed. Written well & narrated well. Listened on 1.2 speed. Moving on to book 2 now & excited for what that has in store for the characters.

good

It was a good story. I liked the characters and their varying personalities and growth. I think both narrators did very well. I am off to start book 2.

Ok I guess

There are two things that put me off an audiobook....mispronounced words and male narrators speaking the female parts so they sound like 65 year old smokers named Wanda you met at the local diner's early bird special. Seriously.

The diversity of characters

The adventure is just starting. This book is just the beginning. What next? It needs to get better or I am about to leave.

good listen

the southern accent takes a minute to get used to but I love the southern sayings. I live in the south east so I enjoyed hearing them and found myself giggling over them. this is an interesting take on the super natural. it gives you a lot of moral and ethical dilemmas to ponder. I'm enjoying it.

Great characters, great story

I’ve been on a bit of a reverse harem kick lately. The forced coming together of “mates” really gets old. This book is not that. It’s this beautiful natural process that is fully satisfying. The characters are full and nuanced. And there aren’t ridiculous moments of damsel in distress. Full marks!
