Acerca de esta escucha

Scarlett Lattimore arrives at Lilith House, an abandoned mansion built in 1876, that later housed a reform school for troubled girls, to start a new life with her seven-year-old daughter.

But between the nearby town with the strange, disconcerting feel, the deputy sheriff who is equal parts intriguing and suspicious, and the discovery that their new home holds a dark and violent past, Scarlett soon begins to question her rash decision.

She is shaken and afraid by the screams that echo in the walls and the drumbeat that arises from the surrounding woods where the ghost of an indigenous man is said to roam, seeking vengeance. Her fear is also personal, because Scarlett knew one of the girls who attended the school, a friend who escaped into those woods and was never seen again. They all thought she was a rebellious runaway who later encountered foul play, but perhaps the truth is far more sinister.

As Scarlett’s extraordinary daughter Haddie becomes consumed by the eerie figure who weaves and beckons through the forest fog, and a legacy of secrets reveal themselves, it becomes clear both Scarlett and Haddie are in grave danger. When the past intersects with the present, they will come face to face with the true evil of Lilith House. An evil that has lasted for more than a century.

Great book but…

This book was awesome. I’m a huge fan of Mia Sheridan’s. I have nearly every book of hers’s on audible. I read Fallen first and was excited for audio version. Unfortunately, I was so disappointed in the female narrator that I was more distracted by her unemotional presentation than actually enjoying the story.
I would suggest reading it rather than listening to it.

I keep loosing it.

I would listen for a few chapter. then when I came back to it . trying to pick up was hard. Be awake studying every word they you will probably not have to start over and again. Narrator was awesome. after 5 listens I'm still not sure of the ending. other books from author good.

Great story, but the narrators …

Amazing story by Mia Sheridan. I love this tangent with the murder mystery plots

The female narrator was ok but the male narrator just too intense and borderline cheesy.
Like a 1950's commercial

I still recommend though the story is worth the sometimes annoying male narrator

Excellent Audible

First I’ll speak on the audio. Maya Bowman delivered an outstanding performance. However, when Alexander Cendese read his parts, it didn’t quite match what I expected the male protagonist voice to sound like. And when he spoke like a girl it was not great. That’s why I give a 4 on performance. But the story was amazing. Mia Sheridan can do no wrong.

A Good Story Poorly Read

The story held my interest but the performance was atrocious. Ms. Bowman mispronounced or mis-emphasized more than a half dozen words. Mr. Cendese made the characters of two strong women, Scarlet and Georgia, sound like pre-teen elves (no offense to pre-teens or elves). Sorry, but their performance almost made me stop listening.

Slow start but excellent read (and okay listen)

This definitely had a slower start than most of Sheridan’s books, but once the story got moving, it unraveled into something beautiful! I actually switched back and forth between the kindle version (it’s on unlimited) and the audible version because the female narrator is truly intolerable. Just bad!! All around. But, given that the male narrator is one of my favorites, I couldn’t justify giving it less than a 4 on performance. Either way, don’t let the narration take away from the story if you are a Mia Sheridan fan - go for the kindle version to fill in the gaps!

Unexpectedly fabulous!

This is my first time reading (hearing?) this author—and I was exceptionally and pleasantly surprised! GREAT plot and character development; it kept me wanting to listen in one fell swoop. I highly recommend, and I’ll be searching for more books from this author!

Not my favorite from this author

Mia Sheridan is one of my favorite authors. I absolutely loved Where The Blame Lies and Where the Truth Lives. This book, however, was underwhelming. It took forever for the story to get going even though it was pretty obvious what was happening. I really didn't like the narrators. Overall, I liked the concept of the book but it felt a little unpolished. I don't regret purchasing this book but if you're trying to decide which one to buy, go with Where the Blame Lies and then Where the Truth Lives. Those two are infinitely better.
