En la Pedagogía Waldorf el cuento se usa como vehículo para potenciar la imaginación, la expresión emocional y el desarrollo moral y temperamental del niño. Uno de los mayores beneficios que supone es la interiorización de vivencias a través de imágenes, permitiendo entender en su alma el mundo que les rodea. Los protagonistas se enfrentan a sus propios miedos o retos, con valentía, porque saben que la recompensa es mayor. Esos desafíos y temores que afrontan simbolizan parte del camino de la vida. Los personajes no se corresponden con seres individuales, sino que se identifican con arquetipos del bien y del mal, con imágenes metafóricas de aspectos importantes del alma. Asimismo, los contextos son imágenes que representan los procesos anímicos o evolutivos del ser humano que todos estamos llamados a recorrer. De este modo, la narración, a la vez que les arropa con un manto cálido e invisible de fantasía, les enseña a gestionar las adversidades, fortaleciendo su ser y preparándoles para la vida.
