About this listen

The Boy lives in a cottage with his mother and father, and the Dragon lives in a cave on the Downs. The Boy is his only friend. The Dragon is not at all the sort of Dragon one might expect to meet, however: he's polite and friendly.

A charming dragon meets a witty boy 🎆👏🎆

A book that had me laughing and nervously expecting the worst but, thankfully, my expectations weren't met.

I LOVED this story.

If you can listen to the audiobook Anton Lesser is marvelous.

A Bookish Boy, a Lazy Dragon, an Equable Knight

One day a dragon who boasts blue scales and a preference for poetry rather than "ramping" starts living in a cave on the downs near the home of a boy who loves reading books, especially natural history and fairy tales. What will happen when the normal people living in the town, you know, the kind who love watching fights, baiting animals, punishing villains, and exterminating pests become aware of the dragon? Will the boy be able to arrange everything to everyone's satisfaction? Grahame's story is a humorous revision of usual tales featuring dragons. Although it threatens to become a wee bit precious at times, it's mostly charming, and its themes about human nature are keen. And the reading by Anton Lesser is fine.

THE RELUCTANT DRAGON - CHILDHOOD MEMORIES

Just finished reading the children’s book, THE RELUCTANT DRAGON by KENNETH GRAHAME . I read the kindle ONLY ON AUDIBLE VERSION while listening to the Kindle audiobook version narrated by ANTON LESSER on my Kindle Reader for iPad. This was my bedtime story for my 2 fur babies, BIZZY & JOJO. They really enjoyed their little night night story and were soon fast asleep. In this delightful tale an unnamed boy discovers that there is a dragon living in the downs above his house. But this is no ordinary dragon, this is an erudite, poetry-loving dragon. The boy and the dragon become friends in short order. Unfortunately, the villagers also discover that there is a dragon living in the downs and they send for the great dragon slayer St. George. The boy and the dragon need a plan, a plan that will save the life of this unique and delightful dragon. This edition is illustrated with whimsical dragons throughout. From the author of 'The Wind in the Willows. Very sweet and enjoyable.

Crazy Dragon

It was easy to understand plus a surprising twist. The story is about the boy, St. George and the dragon mostly.

Charming

A simple children's story but well told. Not quite the classic that Wind in the Willows is but still worthwhile.

An enchanting story and parable for children of all ages, which is made even more delightful by that master of narrators, Anton Lesser.
