About this listen

In mid-December 1968, after recovering from wounds sustained in a murderous mission, Gary Linderer returned to Phu Bai to complete his tour of duty as a LRP. His job was to find the enemy, observe him, or kill him - all the while behind enemy lines, where success could be as dangerous as discovery.

A great listen

This book is like a diary each chapter is a day of the author’s Vietnam tour Another honest account by a a very brave man who reveals his fears that accumulate with each Ranger/LLRP mission And the end reveals the long term consequences of the service and makes feel very bad that our country did embrace and honor the men who served in combat in Vietnam They were as good as soldiers this country ever sent into harms way

Damned good book

I have always enjoyed first hand narratives of war experiences and the author did an excellent job describing his time in Vietnam. The LRRP's and Rangers were phenomenal warriors and I have the utmost respect for what they accomplished. Additionally the narrator did an excellent job.
Stay a LRRP, stay alive. Airborne.

If you were there, you will get

I was stationed in the same area 1 year later doing something different. This is a thoughtful deeply personal of what many of our generation went through. Thank you sir, it brought tears to my eyes.

Good Book

I liked the Diary format and the detail of the missions. It got me listening intently as the writer described moving through the jungle, or overnight in a defensive perimeter and hearing enemy movement.

Raw

Struggles portrayed in this story are objectively and honestly recounted! Truth is always scarier than fiction. Humility and patriotism!

Great reflection on a year in Vietnam

the narrator is easy to listen to and recounts the events in a very heart felt manner.
I really appreciate the insight to this rangers year in Vietnam. His epilog is right on,and the more we understand of this time the better we can separate the politics from the soldiers on the ground.
thank you for your service and sharing your experience.

Puts you there

Mr. Linderer puts you right there with him. I try to read all his books and books authored by the men he served with. The way they were treated when they came back to the world makes me sad and angry. Welcome Home Sargent Linderer!
