About this listen

The New York Times bestselling author of In Five Years and One Italian Summer returns with “a romantic gem” (Laura Dave, New York Times bestselling author) about a young woman who decides to finally live for herself rather than rely on the universe for answers.

Daphne Bell believes the universe has a plan for her. Every time she meets a new man, she receives a slip of paper with his name and a number on it—the exact amount of time they will be together. The papers told her she’d spend three days with Martin in Paris; five weeks with Noah in San Francisco; and three months with Hugo, her ex-boyfriend turned best friend. Daphne has been receiving the numbered papers for over twenty years, always wondering when there might be one without an expiration. Finally, the night of a blind date at her favorite Los Angeles restaurant, there’s only a name: Jake.

But as Jake and Daphne’s story unfolds, Daphne finds herself doubting the paper’s prediction, and wrestling with what it means to be both committed and truthful. Because Daphne knows things Jake doesn’t, information that—if he found out—would break his heart.

“Daphne’s sometimes heart-wrenching, often heartwarming search for meaningful relationships, both romantic and platonic, is sure to inspire” (Publishers Weekly, starred review) new and longtime fans of Rebecca Serle.

A romance that felt new…I had no idea how it would end! The flashbacks were effective.

This book was thoroughly entertaining! It's like a mash up of The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo and The Measure in regards to dating. The storytelling is stellar as it waltzes between the past and present.

Evelyn Hugo Meets The Measure

A fun story of how a young women deals with interesting twists and turn in love and friendship. You will feel all the feels with this one, laughing one minute and crying the next.

Great story line that reminded me somewhat of The Measure. Julia’s performance never misses. Would recommend this to anyone.

Started a little slowly but kept my interest. And I’m so glad it did. This was a beautiful surprise and one of her best books yet.

Beautiful and moving

I really enjoyed five years but this book didn’t help me really get to know the main character or why others loved her so much so I found it difficult to connect.

Not over the top with w excitement but still a good read/listen. The way she describes her dog is exactly how I feel about mine.

You can never go wrong when Julia is narrating. But perhaps it introduced me to Rebecca Serle and now I love her writing style and good story telling. Can’t wait to read more of her.

I picked this book because of Julia Whelan being the narrator.

Another incredible novel by an author who is definitely becoming one of my favorites. From the first moments of listening I was enthralled. I wanted to know who this character was, how her story began and later becomes. The depth and genuineness of the characters’ raw insecurities is clearly conveyed. We all can feel this at any given time but also how much we can compromise ourselves during those emotional moments. There is so much to love about this book. It’s beautifully written and emotional, and the characters, I fell in love with so many and adore them!!

Again Julie does an amazing narration with this complex emotional story. All character voices are portrayed authentically and add so much life to this beautiful novel!!

Wow Loved It!
