Story
The kingdom of Cornucopia was once the happiest in the world. It had plenty of gold, a king with the finest moustache you could possibly imagine, and butchers, bakers, and cheesemongers whose exquisite foods made a person dance with delight when they ate them. Everything was perfect - except for the misty Marshlands to the north, which, according to legend, were home to the monstrous Ickabog. Anyone sensible knew that the Ickabog was just a myth to scare children into behaving. But the funny thing about myths is that sometimes they take on a life of their own.

Story
Three months ago, Tansy Bloom quit monster hunting. Since then, she’s been trying to live a normal life (whatever that means), but ending up single, unemployed, and living on a boat outside her godfather’s pub definitely wasn’t part of the plan. So, when Tansy’s ex-husband – fellow monster hunter Rex Barclay – turns up like a bad penny and asks for her help with his latest investigation, Tansy reluctantly agrees. At first, the job appears to be a straightforward monster hunt – following a spate of large creature sightings, Rex believes a werewolf is on the loose in Norfolk.

At twenty-nine, Valancy Stirling is an “old maid” trapped within the tedium and troubles of family life. She escapes by building the imaginary world of the Blue Castle. When she is diagnosed with a serious heart ailment, Valancy realizes she has never been happy. She doesn’t want to waste what time she has left. She seizes the moment. This catalyst for change leads her on towards relationships and entanglements far beyond what she could have predicted, including with a mysterious man known as Barney Snaith.

No scope of imagination
After listening through the 3 books, I loved the narrator, and highly recommend choosing her for those like me that love a consistent narrator through a series. Truly beautifully done.
My quibble is with L M, who makes the most infuriating decisions regarding the plot, over and over again. I really didn’t like her choices, and felt that so many of them were simply out of character for this beautiful woman she had developed over so many pages. This final book seems to have been about the damaging effects of anger, jealousy, and pride, without much resolution or even awareness on the characters parts. A really sad ending to the trilogy, and a forced listen to find out what happens in the end.

Excellent narration
I love Wendy Rich Stetson’s portrayal of Emily. I was so excited for this last novel recording to be published, and it is just as beautiful as the first two. Loved it!
