About this listen

Twenty-four hours before we were to be married, I offered to shoot her. 10 hours before our wedding, I made a mockery of her dying wish. Five hours before we were going to say our vows, I promised I'd never love her. One hour before I said I do, I vowed I'd never shed a tear over her death.

But the minute we were pronounced man and wife, I knew.

I knew I'd only use my gun to protect her. I'd give my life for hers. I'd cry. And I would, most definitely, lose myself to a dying girl - a girl who by all accounts never should have been mine in the first place.

I always believed the Mafia would be my end game - poisoning my heart while it claimed my soul. I never could have imagined it would be my redemption, or the beginning of something beautiful.

The beginning of her. The end of us.

Omg

You will need tissue!! This book killed me! It was so beautiful and heartbreaking all at the same time. This is the story about Sergio and Andi and I honestly wasn’t that excited about Sergio In the beginning of the series, but Rachel’s writing has a way to make you change your mind about anything and make you feel bad for doubting her. Sergio starts off as his charming self and then just gets so much better to where he is now my favorite. The narration was superb and made the story a little too real. It’s hard adjusting to the fact that these characters aren’t real, but listening to it and hearing it in your head make all the difference. I look forward to the rest of the series and will probably end up listening to this series again.

Lovely, heartbreaking

If you’re an Eagle Elite fan this is an excellent addition to the series. However this isn’t the book you want to start with, but it is necessary foundation for the next book. Sergio and Andi’s story is heartbreaking and lovely and wonderful and there will be tears.

As always Tom Taylorson and Amy McFadden are fabulous.

emotional and charming

Book 6 in the Eagle Elite Series certainly packs a one-two punch - but it's not the punch that you expect. We are taken on a journey. One filled with one filled with love, romance, friendship. All nestled between the crazy gun-toting Mafia. This is Sergio's story. As with most of the series, Luka and his black folders have played a significant role. Sergio is to marry Aniy to protect her. Andy is dying. Rachel Van Dyken has pulled every string of my heart in the most beautiful way. I loved seeing Sergio and Andi go from enemies to Lovers to Forever Friends. The story has definitely brought a humbling and emotional experience to the Elite Eagle series. I enjoyed the narrator's Tom taylorson and Amy McFadden. And now I am on to Empire as Sergio's story concludes.

Two Twirl-Worthy Book!!!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would ABSOLUTELY recommend this book! In fact, this audiobook took me completely by surprise by how amazing it was - I wished I would have listened to it sooner!

Who was your favorite character and why?

Andi was my favorite character by far. She was one of those rare characters who you come to love and get so invested in you would love to know a version of her in real life. She is funny, strong, sarcastic, caring, kick-ass, reluctantly vulnerable, eternally optimistic and completely inspiring.

Which scene was your favorite?

There are a lot of scenes to love in this book, but some of my favorite scenes are when Andi expresses how happy she is by saying it's a twirl-worthy moment, or in some cases two twirl-worthy.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Oh my goodness. The feels. Yes, this book gave me all of the feels. The best books are the ones that have you laughing and crying, this one made me do just that. I was listening to this book while I was outside, thank goodness no one saw me because I was a mess! They would have thought I was crazy from all of the laughing and crying I did.

Any additional comments?

Elude is the sixth book in the Eagle Elite series by Rachel Van Dyken, but it can be listened to as a standalone. This was not my first Rachel Van Dyken book (but it was the best one I've listened to) but it was the first book in this series that I listened to. I did feel a little behind with all of the characters but they are explained enough that I didn't feel as though it was necessary to have read the previous books - but after listening to this I wish I would have because it was just that good!

This is the story of Andi and Sergio who are going into an arranged marriage, Andi for protection and Sergio for penance. Sergio vehemently does not want to marry Andi, he begs her not to go through with it, then he offers to kill her so they don't have to go through with it and he tells her he will never love her, but the moment they marry he knows he will protect her. Andi is a Russian princess dying of cancer and is going through with this marriage for her own reasons, some of which are sprinkled throughout the book. Andi, though dying, is so full of life and the perfect counterpart to Sergio. Sergio's character is flawed and great, and he doesn't change overnight- which I like- it's a change that comes overtime due in great part by Andi who shows him how to live and how to love, and the way it's expressed-oh boy. The two of them together are hilarious (they have the best banter!), heartwarming and also heartbreaking.

The narration was perfect for this book. Amy McFadden gave a stellar performance, she really brought Andi to life. She was able to bring Andi's zest to the forefront while showcasing her strong yet vulnerable side in the most seemingly effortless way. Tom Taylorson made a great Sergio. I was so captivated by both of the performances that I was lost in this incredible story.

This book has it all! Romance, Suspence, Action, Humor! (I could go on.) Rachel really outdid herself on this one. I picked up this audiobook on a whim (I had the kindle-book but hadn't read it-so I got it at a discounted rate at audible) and I'm so glad that I did. Every so often an audiobook comes around that knocks me on my butt and this one managed to do that. I know that I will be re-listening to this audiobook again! Highly highly recommended!!!
