Acerca de esta escucha

On Saturday afternoon, Nikki Delany thought, "George Wilson, in the kitchen, with a blender." By dinner, she had killed George and posted his gory murder to her blog. The next day, she put on her mourning clothes and went out to meet her best friend for lunch to discuss finding a replacement for her love interest.

Nikki is a horror novelist. Her choice of career is dictated by an obsessive compulsive disorder that forces her to write stories of death and destruction. She can't control it, doesn't understand it, but can use it to make money anywhere in the world. Currently "anywhere" is in Japan, hiding from her mother who sees Nikki's OCD as proof she's mentally unstable. Nikki's fragile peace starts to fall apart when the police arrest her for the murder of an American expatriate. Someone killed him with a blender.

Reality starts to unravel around Nikki. She's attacked by a raccoon in a business suit. After a series of blackouts, she's accompanied by a boy that no one else can see, a boy who claims to be a god. Is she really being pursued by Japanese myths - or is she simply going insane?

Contains mature themes.

Another excellent read by Wen Spencer. A well realized version of modern Japan I'm excited to revisit.

Glad the narrator carried it off. The Japanese was pretty decently pronounced as far as I could tell and none of the voices were annoying. Recommend this for any anime fan or fans of urban fantasy who want something a bit different. As usual, Wen Spencer's characters are the real gems of the story. You'll care about Nikki from the beginning and care about Leo and Miriam and her kami friend.

I've loved the book for a while,

This was a surprisingly enjoyable book that's delves into the world of the Japanese Kami. Definitely give it a listen.

Unique and interesting story

Wow, just finished and i’ll be restarting it immediately. It was a wild ride that kept me guessing all the way. I listen to a lot of books now with a long commute to work. Much of what I find is meh this was the best I’ve found in months. I was sitting in the driveway at home not wanting to stop the book. I want more!

OMG, Wen is her ‘A’ game. This was great!

I've been waiting so long for this audio book, and it's awesome!
If you're new to the story, note you will take a while to figure out what's happening because the POV character takes a while to figure it out. It's totally worth the effort!
Enjoy!

totally worth it!

I loved The storyline, I love the characters. there were a lot of them, however they hung together and made sense and were all interesting.

I love the fact that the author incorporated so much of the Japanese real world experience and Shintoism and history.

I even love the ending of the book where she had a listing of Japanese and French terms used.

The one small caveat is somewhat of a spoiler so I will remain obscure. The ending seemed as though it was written from the point of view of someone who just couldn't figure out how to end the book. sort of "and then I found that I had a spare thermonuclear warhead in my back pocket so I used it."

nevertheless, spite that one small criticism I very much enjoyed the book and would encourage everyone to listen. The performance artist doing the reading really was very good in all of her pronunciations and just was a pleasure to listen to.

loved it, ending perhaps a little... beyond

Although 100% not what I was expecting this book was very well written and grabs your attention from the 1st page. I look forward to reading more of the authors future works 😀
