Decent action book set in space
Fun, will keep you on your toes, decent writing.
However, it does lose two stars for some blatant xenophobic (towards humans, not towards aliens) commentary including blaming COVID as being an intentional attack by the Chinese government.

Space opera? Or space top 40?
Our protagonist is blessed with an irrepressible joi de vivre and enthusiasm for new frontiers, carrying him through tragedies that lend ballast to the otherwise lighthearted story. Quick paced and well read, the narrator giving delightful nuance.

self awareness in a humorous yet still gritty wartime sci-fi, yes please!
This story is a lot like the "Expeditionary Force" series, just minus the beer can, and fluff (er nutter). I literally can't put the series down, at about halfway through the three book bundle I already purchased the rest of the series and have yet to be disappointed. A future classic to be sure, I cannot recommend this series enough.

Incredibly fun
Unputdownable. I’m not military, but I work as a civilian for the USAF and this set was a super fun listen. Easy to understand, the narrator did an awesome job with the various voices. Sort of reminded me of Project Hail Mary in the style it was written. I love books with “informal” vocabulary, it makes it much easier to relate to.

fun and accurate
this story was a lot of fun, and the narration brought the characters to life. most importantly for me was the accuracy and believability of the military jargon, personnel, and the interactions between those personnel. that's a veteran this is an area where some military sci-fi can become distracting, but not so for this author.
