About this listen

Billionaire Elliott Kantor, who ruled over a mammoth real estate portfolio in Chicago, was a creature of habit. His trainer came to his house three mornings every week for a five-thirty workout. By six-thirty he was in the car and his driver drove him down into the city where he’d get a shave and trim from his barber every morning, then head over to his offices on Wacker. He always ate breakfast at his desk, had two young assistants who tended to his every whim and demand, then spent all day in and out of meetings growing a business that had already made him one of the wealthiest men in the country.

There were few surprises in his world. Or so everyone thought, until Kantor died in his sleep at age 77, leaving behind a vast fortune and grieving wife, son, and five grandchildren.

When Simon Kantor enlists Ashe Cayne to explore his father's death, the probing private investigator learns there was plenty of "activities" Elliott participated in after hours, including a sex traffic ring. And as Ashe and listeners will discover this is only the beginning, and as our hero dives deeper and deeper into Elliott's hidden world, this may be the end for the intrepid Mr. Cayne.

A Chicago Thriller…

Incredible listen. This is my first time listening to this genre. I’m glad I came across this book. This should be a film.

Great narrator and the pace was perfect. Looking forward to whatever is next. Ashe is the man!

Being from Chicago the setting was authentic and it felt real.

Not my favorite…but enjoyed it🙂

I enjoyed this book although not my favorite Ian K Smith piece. The story had a really good, twisting plot. I missed the main character taking on a vigilante role to avenge another death. For some reason, Mechanic had an accent in this production that he hadn’t always had. I didn’t like it because it doesn’t match his persona. BUT overall, I enjoyed the book.

Great Read

I am an Ian Smith fan and once again he did not disappoint with this one. I really enjoyed listening to this book. There were moments when the Ashe quoted Shakespeare or other quotes that left me also saying, "huh?" I think there were too many in this Book 4. The plot was good, and I appreciate that I could not identify the "who did it" until the last 2 chapters. I can't wait to read Book 5, please tell us there will be a Book 5.

Quite the character

I really enjoyed the characters. The narrator did a great job of distinguishing each individual. The mystery kept me invested, but was a little convoluted. Overall, a good read.

Not for me!

The authors descriptive manner of writing was far too pretensive for what I believe would "turn off" many readers. I actually couldn't wait for the book to end.
