Science fiction is a genre as diverse as you can imagine. There are stories that take place in deep space, often depicting teams exploring or running away from something; stories that focus on life at the most cellular level, such as a pandemic tale; and stories that take place in times that feel similar to our own. Depicting themes of existentialism, philosophy, hubris, and personal and historical trauma, sci-fi has a cadre of topics and moods.

A Worthy Sequel

So much plot expansion happens in this installment of the Dune series, and it's amazing. Truly a case of plans within plans, feints within feints.

I wish the narration had been kept in the same format as the first book because there were so many more characters and events in this sequel that the changes in voices for narration became a little muddy. Other than that, this was expertly read/performed.

Changing Narrators!!!!

Performance issues!! I loved the voice acting in the first book and was excited to have the same actors- but things switched around constantly!! Paul was the narrator, men were doing Alia's voice all badly, Stilgar sometimes had an accent and sometimes didn't- it was literally changing within chapters and was distracting for the listener. Great story and sequel, but I'm hesitant to purchase the third book because I worry the same inconsistencies will take me out of the experience.

Surprised Me!

I spent the entire book thinking I was just going to hate this, but finally in just the last 30 minutes, it net every expectation that I didn't know I was holding against the book.

Too many narrators... loss of continuity

Read the book ages ago. I found I had a different perspective on the story line. What was aggravating was the lack of continuity in voices for the characters, especially the supporting roles. It made things a bit hard to follow.

Loved it

I had read the first Dune book many years ago, before recently hearing the audio book, and loved it.

I wondered if I would have the same enjoyment with the sequel I had never read, and was happy to find I did.

Amazing book and I'm ready for the next in the series!

Kind of hard to understand.

About the only thing I got was Paul was blinded. Maybe I will listen to it again to get it.

A philosopher's tale

A hard to read/listen to material. There is no villain and there is no hero. It's so different from any other saga I have ever encountered and the style of describing events and atmosphere can be hypnotising.

Reading from the perspective of a sociopath/ego-dead personality almost goes against every rule. It feels that with a little alteration Herbert could have excused fascism. The death of millions is but a speck of dust in the span of the universe.

This is not a "good story". It's a philosopher's ideological tale that can change the way you think if you let it.

Very good book.

I love how beautifully boring this book is.

The narrator makes all the characters sound old, though, unfortunately. Very, very old. I was truly hoping to see Scott Brick taking more roles in this book, as I absolutely love him as a narrator.

Readers did an excellent job

I had read the first book, and because of certain reasons had to use audible. The 4 readers, especially the 1st, did very well keeping the story engaging by using good, but not overbearing, unique voices for each character. Enjoyed maybe even more than the 1st, which was absolutely spectacular.

Great

Great continuation of the Dune series. Well done. I recommend it to anyone who likes Science Fiction although I would suggest listening to Dune first.
