Henry Franken has a problem with money-he has too much of it. When his unprincipled father dies, thirty-three-year-old Henry inherits a massive estate, including an Upper East Side residential building. He must confront the reality of his new financial status, directly conflicting with his well-honed identity as a "progressive liberal." When he shows up to collect the keys to his father's building, he notices a sign: "Doorman Wanted."

Seeing a chance to stave off the complexities of his inheritance, Henry applies for the position under a pseudonym . . . and gets it. Now, no one in the building knows that Doorman "Franklin Hanratty" is the building's new mysterious owner.

Through interactions with residents and the homeless outside his door, Henry develops from an idealistic young person avoiding the demands of his fortune, into a man who accepts the opportunity to direct that wealth toward a broader good.

Great story!

What a warm and charming book. The concept was just perfect and the stories of the people living and working in and around the building were sharp but loving. The author narrates it perfectly.

Clever Humor and Fun Story

This is a great story about someone coming to grips with who they are in the heart of Manhattan. Nicely paced and exquisitely read, it is an entertaining saga that will leave you feeling like there is good in the world.

Charmed by this Doorman

Should I ever have the need to find an apartment in NYC, L'Hermitage is my top choice. Raptured by the author's reading of the book, the building's lobby came to life with quirky, yet endearing, residents. I felt like I had poured a cup of coffee from the lobby's urn, put my feet up and watched the comings and goings. I would love to be greeted by Franklin the Doorman and found myself laughing out loud as the picture of his duties, his true connection to the residents and the inner workings of the building unfolded. Miller nails the Upper East Side, the park, the NYC catering pecking order and more. The premise is new and timely. The writing is filled with wit, honesty and the perfect amount of awkwardness of the main character to make him endearing. I can't wait for the sequel to find out what happens to the residents and the "locals" in this bustling Upper East Side community.

This was a charming, funnyy, well narrated story of life as a doorman who meets peoplefrom different backgrounds and finally figures out what is important in life.

Entertaining throughout the entire book. Hard to put down until more time. Great story line.

I enjoyed listening to this unique and original book. It was entertaining with wonderful characters. The author narrated his own book well. I think the book was too lengthy.

HOA humor

I really loved the HOA humor in this book. Feel like that was the pinnacle scene for me in this book!

The narration of this masterful first novel is exquisite!

Glenn R. Miller’s Doorman Wanted is a great read. I chose the audiobook version after hearing the author’s narration of it . His reading really brings the characters and the dialogue to life. Probably the best narration of any audiobook I’ve ever listened to.

If you haven’t done so yet, buy the book in whatever format works best for you. You won’t be disappointed!

Pure Smart Fun with Characters to Adore!

Never have I had this much fun having a cold! I crawled into bed and downloaded author Glenn Miller 's new novel DOORMAN WANTED. I listened to this smart, witty, wry self discovery tale, full of heart, ode to NYC, nod to PJ Woodhouse, a poke at the swanky upper crust with a group of engaging characters that came alive with terrific narration that had me happily in bed for a couple days, listening for hours, laughing out loud. Love the humanity and smarts of Central Park artists, the pretension of the "in the know" art world, the observant and smart senior residents. The personalities came through the narrator's ( the author!)
voice so pitch perfect, the rich cast is ready for film or stage!
