About this listen

"You want more time Mr Brown, of course you do. We all want more time. Let me make you an offer...."

Andrew Brown never has enough time. No time to call his sister, or to prepare for that important presentation at the bank where he works. The train’s late, the lift jams. If only he’d had just a little more time. And time is the business of Mr Symington and Mr Blenkinsop. They’ll lend him some - at a very reasonable rate of interest.

Detecting a problem, the Doctor, Amy and Rory go undercover at the bank. But they have to move fast to stop Symington and Blenkinsop before they cash in their investments.

Read by Meera Syal, this is a thrilling all-new adventure featuring the Doctor, Amy and Rory, as played by Matt Smith, Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvill in the spectacular hit series from BBC Television.

This compilation of stories was more fun and interesting than I was expecting, each was unique and thoroughly in sync with the way Doctor Who tales are told. Enjoyed it very much.

Excellent.

Would you consider the audio edition of Doctor Who: Borrowed Time to be better than the print version?

Yes, it reads almost like a radio play.

Who was your favorite character and why?

This goes with out saying... The Doctor.

Which character – as performed by Meera Syal – was your favorite?

Meera did all the characters really well, though I was pretty impressed with her Amy.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

This is one of the best Doctor Who audio book I have listened to so far. The performance is so good that I sought out other books performed by Meera Syal. This cautionary tale captures the quintesential Whovian style, eeping you just a half-step ahead of the story, yet occasionally throwing you off the trail.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Doctor Who: Borrowed Time?

The best moments would be spoilers, but the fates of certain characters are classic.

What does Meera Syal bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Meera's performance is outstanding, her voicing brings the characters to life.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Yes. But telling would be spoiling.

Any additional comments?

If you need your Who fix, this is the right drug.

I found this to be one of the best Doctor Who audio books I've listened to. Both the story and the reading were fantastic.

A great all-rounder Doctor Who

So to be fair up front, this isn???t a bad Doctor Who story. The plot it good and the only gut check that goes wrong is the stupidity committed by Amy who is character is usually touted as smart if a big gung-ho. It is an good enough story.

That being said the parts I found most remarkable was the underlying message and the ripped from the (7 year old) headlines theme. No kidding the bad guys and the whole story is a metaphor for the current economic troubles and the housing and financial market collapse. The story even goes into explain derivatives (though the word isn???t used) and repackaging and selling on of debt.

Further, compound interest is a major them. I do have say the scene in which the Doctor explains to Amy how compound interest works seems to suggest that the author either doesn???t actually understand or is able to explain compound interest or the author really wants to scare youngsters who may read this book away from becoming bankers.

The story is good. The theme is a focused on finance. If you like Doctor who you???ll like the book. If you don???t this isn???t the one to start with.

Dr. Who vs. the evil bankers of the housing market

I found this one kept my attention the entire time. There was a little bit of humor in it, an interesting plot, and likable characters. It also did not have a ton of death. Sometimes the stories that feature in Doctor Who have characters being killed right and left, this one was less violent.

Really liked this one

The narration was terrible monotone; the story a boring anti-corporate treatise with a predictable ending.

Drudgery
