About this listen

Whether it’s a public health and safety mandate, the enforcement of building and safety codes, or the actions of law enforcement officers within a municipal police department, most people tend to think of Washington D.C. when it comes to the government. The sober reality, however, is that the most relevant government happens at the local level.

Death of a Public Servant is a true story about a former City Manager’s personal experience. After serving his community for 30 years, he was accused of misconduct, labeled a whistleblower, and publicly terminated. These actions would blackball his reputation and nearly destroy his personal life. Over the next six years, he would embark on the steep, uphill journey to clear his name in court, while attempting to pivot from an otherwise stellar career in public service. After a challenging and lengthy court battle, he would go on to win a multi-million-dollar jury verdict.

This audiobook delves into the intricacies of the local public administrator role from the vantage point of someone with firsthand experience. It is raw and unfiltered, and shines a light on the actions of elected officials which often go unchecked. It is both personal and thought-provoking, and will leave you to consider your civic responsibility as a member of your local community.

Excellent Read; Makes You Think

Dan Rosemond presents an engaging account of his rise to the pinnacle of municipal civil service, and the life-changing impact those in the field can experience when the greater-good mindset that motivates many a civil servant collides with the political aspirations of those we elect to oversee them. An important and eye-opening read!

Performance is better at higher speed setting, but the emotional touches added by Mr Price are appreciated.

This book

This is a very relevant book that I believe should be read by all government employees and students studying either political science or American government.

Great listen for any public servant

A great book for any municipal manager. The vulnerability in the story is so refreshing and reminds all of us we are not alone in our journey as government servants.

Powerful & could not stop listening until the end

Thank you for this wonderful audiobook. The delivery was excellent. I appreciated the pace of the author since there was complexity in many areas. I could relate to some of the stories from a community in where I was blackmailed and another where I was harassed but nothing remotely close to this. The author has such a positive outlook on life and sense of humor. This goes on my “must read” list to share with others. I think it would make a good movie too. Just sayin’…
