About this listen

The year is 1943, and Argentina is officially neutral, but crawling with every kind of spy, sympathizer, and military official imaginable. The hero is Cletus Frade, a Marine pilot recruited by the OSS, with strong family ties to Argentina. And in Death and Honor - Griffin's fourth book in the Honor Bound series and the first since 1999 - he's got a lot on his hands.

OSS chief Wild Bill Donovan has asked him to set up his own official-but-really-OSS airline in Argentina, using "loaned" Lockheed Lodestars and Constellations. Of even more concern are two interwoven German operations. The first is a government scheme for Jews outside the Fatherland to purchase the freedom of their relatives in concentration camps, who will then be transported to Argentina and Uruguay.

The second has to do with where that money is going: a plan called Operation Phoenix, which will establish safe havens for senior Nazi officials in Argentina, Brazil, and Paraguay. Needless to say, the OSS is very interested in both of them, and if Frade can somehow find out a little more . . . without getting killed, that is. Which, as Frade is about to find out, is easier said than done.

Rich with the special flair that Griffin's fans have long come to expect from him, Death and Honor is another "immensely entertaining adventure" (Kirkus Reviews) from one of our finest storytellers.

I enjoyed it.

The performance was good, unfortunately the author spends the 1st 11 chapters recapping their previous 3 books. Despite the recap I found myself enjoying the story and getting deeply involved in the plot.

Captivating and Exciting

I'm not encouraging anyone to cheat and go the end of this book...you're just not going to believe how this one ends. W.E.B. Griffin is a master at using real history and blend a fictional plot like no other. You will not be disappointed.

Good Book, Bad Performance

What made the experience of listening to Death and Honor the most enjoyable?

The story is great, the naration by Scott Brick does not compare with the narrators Michael Russotto or Dick Hill

What was one of the most memorable moments of Death and Honor?

When Scot Brick called the German attack on the USSR Operation

Would you be willing to try another one of Scott Brick???s performances?

NO! He is not a good performer, especially with books involving foreign languagues. He mispronouces words and does not deal with accents correctly. In Death & Honor he called the German attack on the USSR opereration

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No

Outstanding historical novel by W.E.B. Griffin

Death and Honor was yet another excellent novel by Mr. Griffin. Superb character development and a fascinating story interleaved in historically accurate events and times. This book gives a fascinating glimpse into an aspect of WWII history that has been as much underappreciated as it was important and complex.

Arguably the best book in the series

W.E.B. Griffin weaves a lot of history into a riveting story with wonderful characters. You get delightful insights into FDR, Juan Peron, Howard Hughes, and other historical figures. Fictional characters such as Clete Frade, Enrico Rodriguez, Bernardo Martin’, Peter von Wachstine and so many others become your friends.

Scott Brick does a masterful job of narrating. Even with so many characters, he does a great job of giving them different voices. He Spanish, German, and American accents are spot on, and his pronunciation of the foreign words are usually correct.

Truly an outstanding book, and an outstanding performance.

Another great book and narrative bt Scott Brick.

Scott Brick was great as usual. You really need to redue Book 2 with Scott Brick narrating because we were robbed from listening to it because of the TERRIBLE narration from the guy that did it.
